Assumani https://au.int/en/cpau/he-azali-assoumani signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of the Russian Federation and the Intergovernmental Organization for Development (IGAD) on the basics of relations and cooperation.

The organization uniting 8 countries of East Africa - Djibouti, Kenya, Somalia, Sudan, South Sudan, Uganda, Eritrea and Ethiopia, was established in 1996 to promote peace, stability and security, regional cooperation, economic integration of member states on the basis of the Intergovernmental Organization for Drought Control and Development, which has existed since 1986.

The signed Memorandum lays the legal basis for Russia's relations with this East African integration association and is designed to promote the further progressive development of multifaceted cooperation, including the sphere of maintaining peace and security and settling crises.

As part of the implementation of the Memorandum, it is planned to hold consultations between the parties and develop separate cooperation programs.
