I just a story from the old country that it is going a nationwide blackout. I now know who did it. Reuters has reported that Egypt's Sisi and Ethiopia's PM have met in Cairo yesterday to discuss Sudan's crisis and Ethiopian dam. That is encouraging news that the two countries are talking now face to face to sort things out about all issues between them in general and Sudan in particular. The facts are laid bare about the dam for everyone to see. There is no secret about it. The process of filling the dam has taken place twice already without affecting the flow of water reaching Egypt even by a single cup. Mother Nature has been doing the job herself by pouring torrential rain during the three months between June and September. To prove the Ethiopian people’s goodwill the scheduled filling of the dam is postponed until September. This is called bending backwards to make your neighbors feel at ease. This shows those glorious and generous people who produced us all have never been their intention to do harm to other nations. This meeting between the two leaders is great news and to hope for.

I hope and am sure that these two same people only living in two separate countries have learned enough and lasting lesson that cordial relationship will always have dividends beneficial for both. This is a word or two of advice to those decision making officials in the old country which I see majority of them being young men.
Watch your language, young man, watch it! Notable individuals in positions of political power like you are always watched with what is coming out of their mouths. I am not saying such authorities do not have the rights to speak but they must always be properly counseled in what they say in public. There are tens of thousands of citizens whose domiciles were demolished for this or that reason who are left without shelters. Such sudden actions have generated anger and tensions are high. Nerves are thinner. Bigots and smart aleck PhD’s are using these actions to fan flames of violence from their comfy homes here among us. So young man, don’t pour gasoline on violence tender situation. Watch your language! I am sure or otherwise you will agree with me that the wild dream/fantasy of carving out a territory to create a separate republic will remain just as that: a pipe dream, Wiz of Oz kind.

Let me try to put it in somewhat different way and elementary language. When I allude my comment towards those in position of power advising them to watch their language what I mean is they should not talk feeling they have the power to do that. If they become too confident that they can say anything they want to say no matter what, then that is nothing but arrogance. Current officials at the top of the food chain whether at the federal or regional level don't have to look too far to find out how such feeling of lordliness have done to their predecessors since 1974. Didn't Mengistu feel he would last at the top until the cows come home? His empire was shredded to pieces in just 17 years. How about those after him? They and their running dogs there and here among us were deafening us that they have the magic wand that will make them stay in power until hell freezes over a million times. They even have the nerve/audacity they and they alone are of a gold race. Well, well, well! Puff, boom, bang; they suddenly found themselves running for their lives in some forsaken escarpments just after 27 years of jailing, torturing, maiming, killing and making opponents disappear in thin air. O boy, those guys, did they know how to steal from the nation's coffers!!! It is alleged by major world financial institutions that close to 30 billion in US dollars was pilfered and hauled away from that nation's coffers in just a decade between 2005 and 2015. There was theft before 2005 but when those despots found out that they were seriously being challenged for power during the 2005 elections it was time to intensify the stealing and they did it in the most sophisticated ways. I had dared those among us who are well experienced in tracing global financial transactions to catch one such theft but so far to no avail. World Bank knows there have been a large haul but I never heard them telling us they have caught one. IMF should have known a large sum in billions was unaccounted for but if you ask them where did it go, they may tell you that your guess is just as good as theirs. That is why my challenge to financial experts among us to locate one theft still stands. But the good news is those goons are gone for good.
So my advice to every young man in a position of power is not to be too overconfident in the authority you have now. Don't underestimate my Oromos. They have PhD's in taking away the authority they gave away to prospects without the need to take to the bushes. They are smooth operators in that task just as their neighbors Amharas. If any politician thinks that there is even a faint whiff of wind exists between these two noble peoples he/she will be painfully disappointed. Always keep that in mind.

In regards to post independence Africa it is my conviction that it had missed the boat in the 1960’s. The main culprits were men of its own product. Majority of its leaders were those who were radicalized during the independence movement. They chose to turn to East for guidance and they became radical leftists. Socialism became their battle cry and that did Africa in. The East did not present a vast market for African products except its natural resources and in stead Africa turned itself into a bazaar for Soviet, Chinese and even for North Korean MiGs, AK-47s and T-model tanks. In most cases its leaders shunned the West completely. That was the gravest mistake those leaders made. They were competing among themselves to show who had the best brand of socialism. Who will forget about Ujamaa? But what were their contemporaries in Asia like South Korea, Taiwan, Singapore, Hong Kong and Malaysia doing? Don’t try to tell me they were preferred. Many young men and women from those countries were given the chance to study in Western countries on scholarships. So were many from various African countries. So what did most those students brought back to Africa? It was not how to make gadgets but some of the most leftist radical philosophy around. Most of the most committed commies were the ones who went to school here in the West and their host countries had nothing to do with it. They brought copies of the devil’s scripture, Das Kapital in stead of technical manuals on how to make gadgets. In the mean time that Asian student who just returned from USA after finishing his/her education was busy tinkering how to make portable kitchen appliances and toys. US manufacturing companies like Admiral took notice of that and came to say hello to Taiwan. Then came Admiral Overseas Corporation in the late 1960’s churning color televisions destined for USA. It is now a wholly Taiwanese owned AOC International. Since I started working for manufacturing companies I had watched those Asian countries transform themselves from cities of brothels into factories humming 24-7. They made a habit of investing heavily in research and developments(R&D’s) instead of procuring military hardware. South Korean companies started making small gas powered motors for our portable construction and plumbing items. Now they are major manufacturers of automobiles. When is the last time you did not see a Kia or Hyundai cruising by? Samsung, LG, hello!!! How about iPhone, iPad, iPod? Any African factory product? All I see is a repacked and rebranded espresso at Starbucks and coffee and tea section at our grocery stores. Africa, on its own accord, has missed the boat in the 1960’s and 70’s. It’s intellectuals were busy showing off their communistic prowess and chicken scratching some notes on imperialism in stead of writing technical manuals in how to make industrial gadgets. The gullible youth was flooded with communist literature that opened the door for endless ethnic and religious bloody conflicts. Those commies and their protégés are now some of the most barbaric bigots. It is ironic to see these bigots are using gadgets made by those Asian countries in planning their demonic schemes. But I am not still giving up on Africa.

I am not a politician by training but a retired engineer who spent his adult life navigating the factory and corporate jungle of America. I started turning my attention to the affairs of that gem of the colored at the time close to my retirement. Even though my priorities were my family and profession I was still keeping in touch with my countrymen/women of various ethnic backgrounds here and Europe. Like our glorious countrymen/women I am fiercely independent in my convictions in that I don't belong to any groupings. I jot down what I feel is good for those glorious people hoping that I will garner some agreement with my readers.
