There is no if. The OPDO gov't has lost the Amhara people. It is only the spineless ADP that is some how working with Abiy until the balance of power shifts decisively. The Amhara people are revolting against the regional and the Federal Gov'ts. The persecution of the Amhara people is now intensified more than ever. No Gov't has ever won fighting against its own people.

Many scenarios can play out here and time shall tell what occurs. If one major part of the PP loses power in the 2nd biggest state of Ethiopia, then surely, PP-OPDO may lose power too in Oromia, to the OLA or form a coalition govt with them in Oromia to secure their power if they want to avoid completely being disgraced, then we may see ultra-nationalists rise to power in the two biggest/most influential states in Ethiopia-Fano and Amara nationalists in their respective state, and OLA/Qeerroo/OFC/PP-OPDO in Oromia. Then there'll be competition and fighting over federal positions/power, and only alliances can significantly tilt the balance towards either side. Compromise or negotiations aren't in the ethiopian empire's MO/way of doing things, so then what? More wars until a clear winner is determined? Wouldn't be surprising. We Ethiopians are known for civil wars, being a client state of the west, man made famines, etc, unfortunately.
Alone, Amara's cannot come to power at the center, they'd need alliances, and of course, these would have to be with their immediate neighbors first (oromo=no, tigrayans would be indifferent and try to play their cards to see what occurs-since obviously they do not trust oromo elites/or amara elites, some of them may hope oromo and amara fight to the point they neutralize each others power, so getachew and debresion can do the gobez tigray circle dance into menelik's palace), ... so then what?
Once again, time will ultimately show what occurs indeed.
As far as the west asking for abiy to give up, if they do, you better believe they'd have another, more loyal puppet ready to replace him and it'd just lead to another cycle of wars and liberation groups being formed or revitalized- in other words, ethiopia shall be kept in misery and internal strife, for the benefit of others.... those others=not being ethiopians,

I am not ready to call him an incompetent leader. But one can't help but wonder how on earth would he forgive the criminalWeyane thugs who have killed thousands of people, even shot innocent cows and bulls to starve their Amhara owners! Not only did he forgive them, but strangely, he hopes to work with them! If he is not mentally affected, I don't see, as brother Zmeselo said, how he can appease every freaking organization by "ፍቅር ያሸንፋል" nonsense?

Hallucinated pipe dream. Amharas must man up and fight off their extremists instead of being eaten up themselves by their extremists and become the slave of Misir. Other Ethiopian nations and nationalities such as the Tigres, Oromos, Somalis and the rest have the know hows of handling extremists and teaching them life long lessons once and for all.
We Ethiopians will never think of asking our democratically elected once in a life time Noble Peace Gold Medal award winner to step down just to please coward village vagabond savages.
The large majority of Fannos are law abiding civilized people doing exactly as the government said. That is why it is useless propaganda to lump together all the Fannos and make it appear that all of them are lawless violent highway gangsters. Biden may send some boys to grab your dirty ranting ar$$$ hole to be thrown in to the Guantanamo cage and forgotten there.

The government went to war against the tplf because it wanted to be a state within a state and disobeyed the Ethiopian law and regulations, causing violent conflicts and threatening to attack the government, its neigbours near and far. Then the government decided to force the tplf to obey the laws and regulations of the Ethiopian state.
The tplf said "NEVER, ON MY DEAD BODY!" but the government said "BY ALL MEANS LAWS AND REGULATIONS MUST BE OBEYED!" and went to war. Tpf faced real painful war and accepted to be a law abiding non threatening Ethiopian people. VOILA! As the situation which triggered the war is eliminated and normalized resulting in the needlessness of a long drawn ongoing war of killing and destitution between sisters and brothers.
There were some people who went to war against the tplf just to go to the extreme and practically exterminate the tplf from the face of the earth. But has never been the objective of the government.

He started really well and put Ethiopian interest first but now slowly focusing on narrow minded tribal matters plus discarding the Ethiopian agenda of correcting woyanes mess, he’s going back to the woyanes way of administering the country….
