Yes, it is sad, indeed a tragedy, the lose of the life of even an individual is not an easy thing to come into terms with, let alone the lives of so many precious people, who were defenders of the nation.
But then Ethiopia (its government) has the responsibility of protecting all of its citizens, which is the overriding responsibility of a government of the people.
You can't punish the whole people for the crime of the "group of individuals" you are talking about here, simply because protecting the people has the overriding priority over punishing the criminals.
You have to compromise, the art of doing politics.
Those who can't compromise have produced the world's perhaps highest level of refugees per capita, even after they have declared to have won their freedom after 30 years of fight, finally. Isn't that more incredible? In my view it is!
Brother DefendTheTruth,
I like cool Ethiopian brothers and sisters, like yourself... But let me ask you one question: do you know any country in the world that has ever allowed criminals to roam in the capital city after the same group had authorized the slaughter of thousands of Federal Soldiers? I think this is just a very simple question... I understand there needed to be "compromise" because you can't get left-over from the white masters if you don't do what the white masters tell you to do. That one I can understand....
When it comes to refugees, I don't think you have the audacity to point your fingers towards anybody from any other country about refugees knowing that your people have also been losing their lives to get to Arab countries as well as some African countries.... God knows how many of your people have also crossed the Mediterranean sea claiming as Eritreans. There is one fact that you can't deny though....While my people have migrated to the west, your people have also become refugees in Arab countries as well as in some African countries.
By the way the country that "produced the worlds perhaps highest level of refugees per capita" saved you from your doomsday. The irony is that the low IQ agames had also believed that Eritrea is empty and that they could control it in a matter of hours with as many soldiers as one of their soccer team fans and the rest is a recent history.

Hawzen,
I have never discounted, or tended to be ungrateful to, the help Ethiopia received from Eritrea at the time of its need, I was not on the ground but listened to those who were there and they owed it to the state of Eritrea that they were still walking, after their own country fellow decided to slaughter them in their deep sleep.
To be ungrateful to such help is not humane, not my way.
I have also not said Ethiopia doesn't produce refugees, it does. But in relation to Eritrea it produces lower number with respect to the numbers per capita. I don't think you can deny that. My wish is to reduce or even eliminate a single person seeking refuge somewhere else, be it from Ethiopia, Eritrea, or any other country in Africa (the world). For that to happen we have to do something, just wishing away can't solve the problem.
Not only we still produce high number of refugees but also we can't still ensure food security for our vast people, this is a big challenge. To face a big challenge the dogma of "business as usual" sort of thinking and handling is not sufficient.
We need to change course, both in Ethiopia and elsewhere, including in Eritrea.
Intransigence on eliminating TPLF may cost the nation what it can't afford, so it had to compromise, after outweighing the benefit and the lose of that decision. This is my guess, I was not (I am not) part of the decision makers.
Hopefully Eritrea will learn something from Ethiopia at one point down the road to the benefit of the Eritreans themselves.
