Armed Conflict Between Somaliland Army And Armed Militia Underway in LasAnod On The Third Day

The Interior Ministry of Somaliland has confirmed that the clashes between Somaliland army and armed militia are underway on the third consecutive day. In a statement, the ministry said that for the third day in a row “Terrorist groups’ ‘ have attacked a military base in LasAnod.

Authorities have not yet disclosed the casualties regarding the ongoing clashes but described the armed militia again as a “Terrorist group” and the army remains on defensive task. Last night, the government reaffirmed its commitment to resolve the tension through dialogue.

Local politicians, clan elders and international partners have separately called on all sides to de-escalate tension and come to the negotiation table, underlining armed conflict would not bring solution to the strained condition.
