This saying came to my mind after reading China standing with Ethiopia in the current crisis facing the country. China has heavily invested in Ethiopia and as such it has an interest in securing peace and stability in the destination of its capital flow.
At the same time it seems also it has a vested interest on the Egyptian side, because its investment interests there may even top the one in Ethiopia. According to the following report the recent visit of the Chinese FM to Ethiopia and pledge to stand with it in its effort to defend itself has already raised an eyebrow of the Egyptian side and even public unease over there.
It is probably 134 Billion $, I don't know why the reporter forgot to put the amount correctly. In that case the investment is in many folds more than the one in Ethiopia. On Feb. 25, the Chinese Embassy in Cairo indicated China has been the most active investor in Egypt in recent years. According to statistics from the Ministry of Commerce of China, China's new direct investment in Egypt jumped by 134, hitting an all-time high of $89.33 in the first quarter of 2021.

If the interest of the Chinese in Egypt may top the one in Ethiopia, then China could switch side (could be squeezed) and held hostage by the Egyptians, even though that seems more unlikely at the moment.
But going forward it could be much wise for Ethiopia to attract more and more foreign investment in the country, in a mutually beneficial way for both sides, so that the animosity from those parties could be reduced and the enemy side would be weakened in trying to contain Ethiopia.
For China and others to side with Ethiopia, we need to share with them from our coffers and then the problem will be fixed by itself.
That is what ከን ኛቴ ነመ ህንኛቱ dictates.
