A long time ago, I learned to distrust God. One too many painful incidents in my life—pains that have vanished from my mind but continue to reside in my heart—taught me to doubt that I was loved and conditioned me to only accept those things I can control. As I hardened my heart when it came to accepting God’s blessings, I concurrently made it a point to try to save everyone.

Seeing my mom hurt in ways that no child should experience and witnessing my dad take his last breath, I made it a point to give to everyone even if that meant hurting myself in the process. I don’t say these things to boast for giving too much is not a virtue one should emulate. God does not want His children to suffer, we are expected to give to others while giving to ourselves. Iyesus told us to love our neighbors like ourselves, He did not advise us to love our neighbors above ourselves....continued...
