Well , his memory is not that good, or he chose to remember by selection. How many times Ethiopian religious leaders, known and respected Ethiopians traveled to Mekele practically to beg the TPLF leaders.
The more those people visited Mekele to initiate dialogue between TPLF and the Abiy administration, the more the TPLF know nothing imagined themselves to be having the fate of the Abiy administration in their very hands. That turned out to be not true.

Political differences require political dialogue. And that has never happened between TPLF and PP or the Government of Tigray and the Federal Government.

The Ethiopian parliament has declared TPLF a terrorist organization. But Tigreans have no obligation to concur as we have witnessed to be. The guy tries to split hair.
As for the negotiation that you downplayed, I do have a different understanding .
First, you have to be open for negotiation. Then either party proposes what should be the ideas or politics they should negotiate with.
Your guys on the contrary declared the Abiy government illegitimate, and they wanted him to accept their dictate. The guy understandably says no.
The problem with your guys is they want to be the leader of the country forever. They tell you their comrades died for it, meaning they have to be in power for millennium.
Ethiopians have a different take about it.
By the way they are not people you could negotiate with.
They are not able to entertain any politics that is not theirs.
In other word they are not negotiation materials.
