U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar, who said she’s interested “in overseeing our international aid” in Africa, is rising on the House Foreign Affairs Committee as she steps into the role of vice chairwoman of the subcommittee with jurisdiction over Africa and global human rights issues.
Omar has retained her position on the House Foreign Affairs Committee despite past calls from some critics that she be removed following widely criticized remarks she made in 2019 about Israel's political influence in U.S. politics.
