Well , I enjoyed the song ; it might have made my day if not for Halafi’s comment.
He does not want her to get a visa and come to “independent Tigray” as a tourist let alone allow her to live there. That is sad. That was one of the reasons tribal politics was gladly accepted by a handful of Tigrean Haileselassie university students. Practically they just met other Ethiopians for the first time in Addis Abeba. The We versus they politics started to cloud their thinking on arrival.
On the contrary , those students who came to the university from Awasa, Diredwa, and Jimma Addis Abeba is another city , only bigger. The residents are primarily Ethiopians who are comprised of different ethnic groups.
Let us say an independent Tigray is created to make Halafi and his likes happy. People who speak the same language — as to make it convenient to Halafi, I assume no Amharic speaker does exist in Tigray — segregate themselves from other Ethiopians. What life will look like in the newborn country ? For a starter it will be boring. It will be economically difficult for the new country to move on.
Forget for a moment about the economic difficulties that will undoubtedly unfold.
Is the newborn independent country will remain united ? Do not count on it, Halafi. The we versus they politics has no limit. As times goes on new definition of we versus they emerge,
It is more likely than not in independent Tigray the Adwans will turn out to be “ temketegnas” that other Tigreans resent.
In the politics of hating others, there are always others who could be hated.
