HoreseAss,

You should have googled to find out what the world produces before you posted this silly stuff. You don't seem to have grasped that 300million quintals is 30 million tons. Now, Canada, produces about 33million tons and the USA, 50 million. Do you imagine that the Ethiopian farmers, who are still in the Dark Ages, are going to compete with US and Canadian farmers. You are getting senile!

Top Wheat Producing Countries
You idiot, why don't you give us the data on 2024 Ethiopia's wheat production? Keep repeating your own propaganda. ጂልና ወረቀት የያዘውን አይለቅም! Within the last 4 years, Ethiopia's production has gown by 300%!

HERE IS A 2022 DATA ON ETHIOPIA FROM FAO - 66, 000,000 QUINTALS! ETHIOPIA'S ANNUAL NEEDS IS UNDER 100 MILLION QUINTALS PER YEAR

DEEPSEEK SAID,

"Okay, so the user is asking how much wheat Ethiopia produced in 2024. First off, I need to check if the data for 2024 is available. Since it's currently 2023, 2024 hasn't happened yet. That means official statistics or reports from organizations like the FAO or Ethiopia's agricultural ministry probably don't exist yet.

Maybe the user is confused about the timeline. They might have meant 2023, but I should confirm that. Alternatively, they could be looking for a projection or forecast for 2024. In that case, I should check if there are any estimates from reliable sources. Organizations like the USDA or FAO sometimes release future crop forecasts.

I remember that Ethiopia's wheat production has been increasing in recent years due to initiatives like the Ethiopian government's push for self-sufficiency. They've been expanding irrigation and promoting new wheat varieties. For example, in 2022, Ethiopia reported a record wheat harvest. So, if there are projections for 2024, they might be based on these trends. But I need to be careful not to present projections as actual data.

Also, I should consider the source of the information. If there's a recent report or a reputable agricultural organization that has made a 2024 forecast, that would be the place to look. But without concrete data, I should inform the user that 2024 data isn't available yet and offer the latest available figures, perhaps with a note on trends or projections if available.

Another angle: maybe the user saw a speculative article or a plan from the Ethiopian government targeting 2024 production. If there's an official target, that's different from actual production. I should distinguish between targets and actual reported data.

In summary, steps to answer:

1. Note that 2024 hasn't occurred, so official data isn't available.

2. Provide the latest available data (e.g., 2022 or 2023 estimates).

3. Mention any known projections or government targets for 2024 if they exist.

4. Advise checking authoritative sources closer to or after 2024 for accurate data.

I should also ensure that the information is clear and not misleading, making the distinction between actual data and forecasts explicit.

As of now, 2024 has not yet occurred, and official data on Ethiopia's wheat production for that year is not available. Agricultural statistics are typically released after the harvest period and require time for compilation by organizations like the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) or Ethiopia's Central Statistical Agency.
Latest Available Data (2022/2023):

In 2022, Ethiopia produced approximately 6.6 million metric tons of wheat, according to FAO reports, marking a significant increase due to expanded irrigation and improved practices.

Preliminary estimates for 2023 suggest continued growth, though exact figures are still being finalized.

Projections for 2024:

Ethiopia has ambitious plans to boost wheat production through initiatives like irrigation projects and the adoption of high-yield varieties. While specific 2024 targets are not widely published, the government aims to achieve self-sufficiency and potentially export surplus wheat in coming years.
Recommendations:

For verified 2024 data, check updates in late 2024 or 2025 from:

FAO (faostat.fao.org)

Ethiopian Ministry of Agriculture

USDA Foreign Agricultural Service"

Ethiopia's ( sorry, forgot to say Oromia's, because more than 50% of Ethiopia is without government), projected wheat surplus and export have face unforeseen challenges. The major wheat producer and donor USAID has stopped aid to Ethiopia. Abiy Ahmed has been exporting wheat flour donated by USAID by using sacks printed as Oromia produced. This is like frost affecting coffee plant and production cutting export revenue.

But, Orommuma will never stop cooking statistics as it is printing paper money in many Qeeroo kitchens.

wheat, marking a 57 percent increase compared to the same period the previous year. The top three
import markets were Russia, Romania, and Ukraine, together supplying 93 percent of the total wheat
shipments to Ethiopia. Russia was the largest supplier, accounting for 75 percent of the total wheat
purchases, followed by Romania (14 percent) and Ukraine (4 percent). The Ethiopian milling industry
confirmed to Post that private traders purchased the wheat using the franco-valuta2 scheme. Although
the Ethiopian government claimed self-sufficiency in local production and ceased foreign wheat
purchase since 2023, private traders are still buying inexpensive wheat from the Black Sea region due to
price competitiveness and unmet demand on the local market. The current market price for higher grade
locally produced wheat is nearly $1,000 per MT, while a similar quality of Black Sea origin wheat is
being sold locally at $790 per MT, approximately 20 percent lower than local wheat prices. Dring the
review period, TDM data shows that there was no U.S. wheat shipment to Ethiopia, which has been
distributed for food aid programs"

Horus,

that is also an additional weight for Ethiopia's progress in the direction of self-sufficiency in food production. I didn't know that Ethiopia's wheat is more valuable than that of the European exporters. This will make Ethiopian producers more competitive on the global market.

Ethiopian statistics says that Ethiopia used to produce around 48 Million of Kuentals of wheat annually, while its own demand was around 97 Million Kuentals a year, the gap was filled by an imported wheat.

Now Ethiopia produces upwards of 300 Millions of Kuentals and I think the demand has not risen that much within the last 6 or so years the time under consideration for the statistics.

Which means there is around 200 Million Kuentals of surplus wheat that Ethiopia is producing now and the trend is rising. There must be some level of reserve for unexpected sort of demands. But if you produce every year that much surplus, then the challenge is in finding the right market for the producers, else no one will going into that sort of a business. Many Ethiopian farmers have started to feel the pain, their produce is no more generating the income they used to have during the production shortage at the national level, even in other crops as well. If Ethiopian wheat is of higher grade quality, then there is a favorable condition to get a competitive price for the farmers (producers) abroad, which will keep the engine of growth rolling. Just like Ethiopian coffee, a premium quality.

Shabos can burn inside out by the unbearable pain of jealousy now without a break!

The inept Ethiopian faandoos can keep showing their level of dumbness on the public forum by making claims like there are still poor people in Ethiopia and as such there is no rise in output. Silly claim. Ethiopia didn't claim to have distributed that much of wheat to the overall population, she only said I have produced that much.

America does produce a surplus of many products in comparison to its own national need/demand, but there are many people who are going empty stomach to bed in the richest country of the world. Did the faandoos dispute about America producing a surplus, or didn't they hear about the existence of poor people in America?

Stupidity has no cure, there is a reason why people come to that conclusion.

My simple advice to the faandoo mob in here and elsewhere is that to be able to fill your big bellies, you should get up and get to work.

The surplus is realized by the people who understood this very simple logic and working hard.

Faandoos and co. have condemned themselves into perpetual misery by their own making.

In my view the game changers are 5 factors - (1) farm size, (2) mechanization, (3) irrigation, (4) science, & (5) intelligence.

Farm size - the massive flat lands of Afar & Somali region + clustering smaller plot
Mechanization - at all stages of production
Irrigation - 3 times per year harvesting !!!!
science - agricultural research in all areas - seed, soil, etc + AI
Intelligence - thinking not only outside the box but thinking outside the brain such as visualizing the vast semi-desert Afar and Somali region as massive wheat fields.

Farming takes place every where at the same time 3 times per and 3 years are enough to achieve the kinds of growth we are talking about!!!

Lazy people find it hard to believe but look at Addis Abeba! It took less than 1 year!!! It is all about political will to do something.

Well, if you bring in the science factor in the whole setup, then the issue of productivity has been always on top of the agenda, as far as I remember.

For example coffee productivity has reached around 60 quintals per hectare this year or very soon (I remember a plantation the PM was showing, from South Ethiopia), from the upto now probably less than 10 or 15 quintals per hectare. The same effort is being exerted in many different sectors.

We now start to raise the productivity in all sectors, and then shift to change the marginal productivity, the potential is immense. We have untapped resources in this regard, the vast majority of the Ethiopian people are not yet at work, and when they start to produce/work, then they make the difference you see in Addis today. Very young and energetic citizens using the most primitive tools and making a big impact in Addis. They work, not yet with the right tooling.

If we can provide these young hardworking citizens the right tools, then they can build the whole country, not only Addis, within a year. That is the promise we have now.

Probably the high grade quality of the wheat may have to do with the climate as well. The potential is immense, 3 times a year, others can only dream of that sort.
