Ukrainian sabotage groups penetrated 600 km into Russian territory, says former intelligence deputy Pavlenko

Special forces of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine conducted operations during which they entered 600 km deep into Russian territory. In particular, they entered the Novgorod region, where a Tu-22M3 bomber was destroyed.
This was reported by Ukrinform with reference to the former deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate, Major General Ilia Pavlenko.
"In 2022, the community of democratic partners, in particular the United States, was very concerned that we would not enter Russian territory. But when it came to the transfer of weapons, the leaders of the countries always said that these weapons were not for use on Russian territory. Then came the story when everyone was happy that we were finally given some kind of permission (to strike Russian territory)," Pavlenko recalled.
He added that the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine, Kyrylo Budanov, expressed a military-political opinion back in 2022 that it was necessary to transfer the war to enemy territory.
“And then there were no long-range drones yet, it was special forces groups that entered the territory of the Russian Federation and carried out all these sabotage operations there,” Pavlenko said. At the same time, he added that with the advent of new technologies, the results became significantly more significant.
He also stressed that the work of Ukrainian special forces is associated with risk to life.

"I pay tribute to the courage and dedication of the guys who entered [the territory of the Russian Federation] and did interesting things there. One of the well-known operations took place when a group from the Main Intelligence Directorate, led by Hero of Ukraine (posthumously) Oleh Babiy, entered the territory of the Novgorod region. At the Soltsi airfield. They completely destroyed one Tu-22M3 bomber and damaged two more. The Novgorod region is 600 km away," Pavlenko said, emphasizing that such operations demonstrate the professionalism and high level of autonomy of Ukrainian special forces.

Russia confirms strike on oil depot near Sochi airport – media

A Ukrainian drone strike on an oil depot near Sochi airport disrupted air traffic, leaving around 800 passengers stranded in Siberian airports who had been scheduled to fly to Sochi.
This was reported by the Astra Telegram channel, according to Ukrinform.
“There was a strike on the oil depot on Tavriyska Street. Please refrain from driving or walking in the area. I will report on important developments,” wrote the head of the federal territory Sirius in Krasnodar area.
It is reported that Sochi airport temporarily suspended operations due to the drone attack, which caused a fire at the oil facility in Sirius settlement.
According to Russia’s Western Siberian Transport Prosecutor’s Office, nearly 800 passengers are waiting for flights to Sochi at the airports in Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Tomsk.
“Due to the late arrival of aircraft, flight delays have been announced at the airports of Novosibirsk, Omsk, and Tomsk,” the agency’s statement said.

While continuing their counteroffensive in the Oleksandrivka sector, the Ukrainian Air Assault Forces have regained control of 285.6 square kilometers of territory over the past month.
Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, General Oleksandr Syrskyi said this in a Facebook post, Ukrinform reports.
"We continue the counteroffensive operation in the Oleksandrivk sector. Here, the Air Assault Forces grouping has regained control of 285.6 square kilometers over the past month. In total, since the beginning of the operation, control has been restored over more than 400 square kilometers of territory," he said.
Syrskyi specified that the results of combat operations were analyzed during a working meeting reviewing the activities of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in February 2026.
According to him, Ukrainian troops in many sectors are containing Russian forces through active defense and, in some areas, advancing. At the same time, the Ukrainian Defense Forces are trying to seize the operational initiative and force the enemy to act according to Ukrainian rules.
"The Russian aggressor outnumbers us almost threefold, but due to our active actions, it is forced to postpone the dates of its planned operations, patch gaps in its defenses and redeploy troops from other sectors," the commander-in-chief said.
Syrskyi also noted that Ukrainian forces are striking targets inside Russia.
"In February, 85 targets were hit using deep strike capabilities. Taking previous periods into account, we are seeing a cumulative effect – a 24.8% reduction in the overall volume of oil refining in Russia," he said.
Syrskyi also highlighted a missile strike on the Votkinsk plant in Udmurtia, where Iskander-M, Oreshnik and other missiles are produced. In addition, the 18% decrease in the use of Russian FPV drones in February is likely linked to Ukrainian strikes on enemy drone arsenals.
"In February, missile troops carried out 228 strikes, while Air Force aircraft conducted 104. In addition, our UAVs completed 293,800 combat special missions," Syrskyi added.
He noted that the meeting also addressed logistics, engineering and fortification works, restoring the combat capability of units, and maintaining discipline within the troops.
"During my visits to the troops, many brigade commanders ask for assistance with armored vehicles. We are working to resolve this problem as well," Syrskyi said.

According to Syrskyi, the trend in receiving international military aid improved somewhat in February. However, the main source of military equipment remains repairs and restoration carried out by Ukraine itself – this indicator in February increased by nearly a quarter compared with January.
"I thank the commanders for their diligent and professional work. According to the evaluation of commanders' performance, the highest rating in February was received by Air Assault Forces Commander Major General Oleh Apostol. But above all, I sincerely thank every Ukrainian soldier. It is the soldier who carries the main burden of the war for Ukraine on his shoulders. Thanks to the efforts of our soldiers, the army holds the line, advances and liberates Ukrainian land," he said.
During the three winter months, the Ukrainian Defense Forces inflicted significant losses on the enemy and regained control of more territory than Russian forces managed to capture.

Ukraine and Saudi Arabia sign defense cooperation agreement
“We have reached an important Arrangement between the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine and the Ministry of Defense of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on defense cooperation. Saudi Arabia also has capabilities that are of interest to Ukraine, and this cooperation can be mutually beneficial,” he emphasized.

Four years ago, on April 2, 2022, the Ukrainian Defense Forces completely drove Russian troops out of the Kyiv region.
The de-occupation became a strategic victory that ultimately shattered the enemy's plans to capture Kyiv within "three to five days" and force Ukraine into capitulation, Ukrinform reports.
Fighting for the Kyiv region began in the first hours of the full-scale invasion. Russian command initially focused on seizing military airfields in Hostomel and Vasylkiv to land airborne troops. However, the resilience of Ukraine's National Guard and Armed Forces, who damaged runways and engaged in fierce battles, forced the aggressor to change plans. The main invading forces advanced by land from Belarus, capturing 15 communities in the Vyshhorod, Bucha, and Brovary districts.
Intense fighting lasted for more than a month in Hostomel, Irpin, Bucha, Borodianka, Makariv, Moshchun, and Dmytrivka. Ukrainian defenders stopped elite Russian units there, including airborne divisions and naval infantry.

One of the decisive factors in the defense was the destruction of a dam near the village of Kozarovychi. This caused flooding of the Irpin River, making it impossible for Russian forces to cross and blocking their advance toward Kyiv from the north. On the eastern axis, near the village of Skybyn, Ukrainian defenders destroyed a column of Russia's 6th Tank Regiment, effectively halting the offensive on the capital.
The occupation was marked by mass terror against civilians. According to law enforcement, more than 1,600 civilians were killed in the region during the occupation, most of them in the Bucha district. Images from Yablunska Street in Bucha and the ruins of Borodianka, systematically destroyed by Russian airstrikes, spread around the world.
A counteroffensive by the Ukrainian Defense Forces in late March forced the remaining Russian units to retreat. Irpin was liberated on March 28, and within days – after clearing Bucha, Brovary, and Hostomel – the Kyiv region was officially declared free.
Despite massive destruction – nearly 27,000 damaged sites – the liberation of the region became Ukraine's first major success in the war. The heroic resistance in the Kyiv region saved the capital, stopped the "blitzkrieg," and gave the country time to mobilize and regroup.
On the evening of April 2, 2022, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry officially confirmed the liberation of the Kyiv region from Russian forces.

Drones attack Moscow and Leningrad region of Russian Federation overnight

On the night of Thursday, April 3, Moscow and the Leningrad Region of the Russian Federation were attacked by drones.
According to Ukrinform, the Telegram channel ASTRA reported this.
“In the Leningrad region, the industrial zone of the village named after Morozov was attacked,” said local Governor Drozdzenko.
An explosives factory is located there; two people were injured.
“Seven enemy UAVs have been shot down so far. According to preliminary data, debris has been found in the Vsevolozhsky district. In the industrial zone of the village named after Morozov, the roof of an unused building was damaged. Two people were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries,” wrote the governor of the Leningrad region.
As ASTRA noted, the Morozov Plant Federal State Unitary Enterprise is located in the village of Morozov. This defense industry enterprise specializes in the production of explosives. It is not yet clear whether it was the target of the attack.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin stated that the Ukrainian Armed Forces attacked the city, shooting down two UAVs as they approached the Russian capital.
