In 1945, the British monarchy appointed Sylvia Pankhurst to be an advisor to emperor Haile Selassie who had returned from exile a few years prior. Britain was at war with Italy, and discrediting Italy through propaganda campaigns was part of the war.
Mrs Punkhurst's mandate was therefore to help restore Abyssinia's image that was altered by 6 years of Italian colonization.
To this end, Mrs Punkhurst single-handedly changed Abyssinia's name to Ethiopia to completely erase the territory's history of Italian colonization, and her actions gave birth to the "never colonized" movement in Ethiopia to distance the territory from its well-documented colonial past.
