Asmara, 21 February 2022- Nationals in the United States contributed 1 million 352 thousand 421 Dollars, in support of families of martyrs and towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.
According to the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare, 818 thousand 965 Dollars was contributed in support of families of martyrs while 553 thousand 456 towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.
Similarly, Ms. Margarita Zekarias a national residing in Frankfurt contributed 1 thousand 200 Euros and Sister Tsigehana Ghilazghi from Asmara contributed 20 thousand Nakfa towards augmenting the Martyrs Trust Fund.

The Hypocrisy of the United States When Dealing with Eritrea!
Some people/organizations that may not know about the State of Eritrea and its God-fearing, hard-working, and magnanimous people may be swindled into believing what the US and its European allies say/write about Eritrea and its government. The fact remains that the various US Administrations have left their unfriendly traits of abuse and unjust treatment of the Eritrean people and their leaderships since 1941. Suffice it to mention here a few examples of what the various US Administrations have been doing to tarnish the image of Eritrea since the Eritrean people clinched their hard-fought and hard-won independence, which culminated with an overwhelming independence vote by an UN-sponsored referendum in 1993.
A few years after Eritrea enjoyed its freedom, in May 1998, the Ethiopian government, under the Tigray Peoples Liberation Front (TPLF) unexpectedly, declared war against unsuspecting Eritrea. The US that parades itself as a champion of peace, sided with the TPLF regime while disingenuously claiming to be a neutral party. Its intentions were manifested further by the biased position Dr. Susan Rice took, and the illegal sneaking into the Eritrean town of Badme from the Ethiopian side of the border by Dr. Jendayi Frazer. Both ladies were assistant secretaries of state for African affairs during the Clinton and Bush administrations respectively.
The "friendly" US government did not condemn when the TPLF regime inhumanely kicked out some 80,000 civilian Eritreans and Ethiopians (of Eritrean origin) during the unwarranted war instigated by the TPLF - despite the Eritrean Government's call for peaceful resolution of any disputed issue. The victims, including pregnant women, and young children (who were forcefully separated from their parents), were snatched away, in the darkness of the night by armed "security" agents of the TPLF regime and made to go through a war zone.
When the TPLF regime air bombed many villages in the Badme area destroying dwellings, water wells, killing and maiming many villagers including their livestock, the US chose to remain silent.
After all its treachery failed to materialize, the TPLF regime realized that it could not defeat the Eritrean people. It finally agreed to a peaceful settlement of the “issue” and was forced to sign the 2000 Algiers Peace Treaty sponsored by the UN. Nonetheless, counting on the blessing of its supporters, the TPLF regime continued to provoke Eritrea and refused to abide by the peace guidelines it signed. The US silence was deafening, despite it being one of the witnesses and guarantors of the peace agreement. The US complexity in the issue continued for 16 long years without it raising a finger at the guilty party, the TPLF, in an environment many refer to as a "no war, no peace" situation! It never condemned the TPLF regime even though the TPLF forces continued to attack the Eritrean Defense Forces' (EDF) positions in futile attempts to “defeat the EDF and illegally seize more Eritrean territories.
When in 2018, the new Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Dr. Abiy Ahmed, informed the Ethiopian Parliament that he was ready to implement the Algiers Peace Treaty with Eritrea fully - based on the Eritrea Ethiopia Border Commission (EEBC) final and binding decision, a sigh of relief was expressed by many peace-loving people and organizations around the world. The Eritrean government reciprocated in kind, and senior authorities of both countries were shuttling back and forth to and from each other's capitals as a gesture of goodwill. But alas! The TPLF regime, which was demoted by a popular Ethiopian people’s revolt to a mere administrator of the region of Tigray, bordering Eritrea, was quick to create obstacles to the burgeoning rapprochement of the two sisterly nations. TPLF created obstacle after obstacle to sabotage the 2018 peace deal signed by President Isaias Afwerki and PM Abiy Ahmed in Asmara and Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) in the presence of the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, among others.
On November 4, 2020, the TPLF attacked the Northern Command of the Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) stationed in Tigray, killing many of them while they were asleep. Many members of the ENDF were humiliated and stark naked when they crossed the border into Eritrea seeking refuge. After the "Defeat" of the ENDF, the TPLF felt confident enough to attack Eritrea and hurled more than a dozen salvos of rockets towards Asmara. At that time the EDF was left with no option other than to defend the Eritrean people by moving into parts of Ethiopia to fill in the vacuum created by the attacked ENDF.
Now that being the case, one would think the US to be one of the countries that understood the EDF movement for it was one of the countries that commended Eritrea for being patient by refraining from reciprocating in kind after the TPLF rocket attacks against Eritrea. But no, true to its trademark "my way or the highway" mentality, it demanded that EDF withdraw "from Tigray" - as if there was a legally construed country known as Tigray!
For discussion's sake, let's assume that was "just a slip of a tongue" that the US authorities meant “Ethiopia” instead. And there comes the fallacy and double-talk when some US officials think they can get away with it. The last time I check, “Tigray” was a part of Ethiopia, a sovereign country. And if there was an issue with the presence of EDF in Ethiopia, it is only Ethiopia that has the right to ask, and indeed demand, the withdrawal of another sovereign state military from its territory, not the US or any other country for that matter. The irony of the belligerent behavior of the United States is that it has the audacity to demand the withdrawal of Eritrean forces from Ethiopia, when its armies are stationed in many foreign territories including Germany, Japan, South Korea, and so on. Thus, ladies and gentlemen, if that is not hypocrisy on the part of the US, I don't know what is?

Thousands of Eritrean refugees sheltering at a camp in the Ethiopian Afar region, have fled following a deadly attack on the facility earlier this month, the UN refugee agency, UNHCR, said on Friday.
At a briefing for journalists in Geneva, a spokesperson the UN agency said that unidentified assailants targeted Barahle camp on 3 February after fighting engulfed the area, according to harrowing accounts provided by refugees...
