Finally, what is wrong with giving peace a chance if one believes that Abiy & Co. are as described in the above?
Giving a chance to peace is a good idea, but a sustainable peace can only be achieved where accountability is given a chance too. The first step in this regard is seeking accountability.
True, accountability is a must for sustainable peace. But, the war has to end to start ensuring accountability. I hope you are not thinking that Tigray invading Amhara region is seeking accountability; or Abiy's war on Tigray is seeking accountability. Continuing the war is not seeking or ensuring accountability.
Let's also differentiate between cause and effect and answer how all these started. It is truly sad that we have to fight each other and spill that much of blood of fellow citizens and that is where accountability should come in. We shouldn't pay that much of price without holding those responsible for such atrocities truly accountable and draw our lesson for the future.
True, so many lives have been lost unnecessarily for 9 months! But what would continuing the madness for another 9 months accomplish apart from spilling 2,3 or even 5 times more blood? We shouldn't accept to spill more blood just because a lot of blood has been spilled. Decisions for the present and the future should not been based on costs that have already sunk. Please watch the below 3 minute videos on how we should not base our decisions on sunk costs. Everyone should be held accountable for past decisions and actions. But the war has to stop for the process of ensuring accountability to begin.
"Sunk costs" is one factor, but not the only factor. Decisions are made based on all factors related to the issue and not on only one of them.
To get the big picture and make a sound suggestion, we need to be aware of all the contributing factors.
One of the main factors in this regard is the instigators should be held accountable, this also to show the rest that such behaviour will not be tolerated any more in the future.
Not only did TPLF instigated all these but also it is adamant in refusing to give a chance for the course of accountability to take its course. It essentially said the only option is the way of war, it chose it, we have to give it what it has chosen.
Who will be held accountable here at the end? I think all those who chose to enable it and provide it a support from behind, above all the people of Tigray will pay the price, I am afraid. The more they delay to recognize this, the more it will be the cost that they have to bear.
The same could be true for all its internal and external associates and enablers.
