I have been working in the Ethiopian security agency in the Operative Undertaking department when TPLF entered Addis Ababa.
They after the third day they announce on the radio all members of the security apparatus to report to the former special security department located behind OAU.

Then I went there like any other and got registered. They asked me if I was a member of the Ethiopian worker's party I said no and told them to got my office on the next working day.

I went but there was nothing to do so we spent almost a months playing cards and playing volley ball, table tennis in our best gym in the building
formerly called 'Lieu Cabinne" just beside OAU, Genet hotel and in front of Orbis.

One day in the morning they told us there is a meeting and guess what? Isays woldegiorgis, Debrestion Gebremichael, Masho Kidane, Hassan Shifa,Meresa, Gebremedihen the one who was killed was the one on the stage and lead the meeting. After a few minutes the meeting started. They told us how Derg was bad and said we will call names and those who are called will go outside.

They called about 100 people and keep them in another hall in the building and they told us they are going for indoctrination. To clear them from Derg ideology. The meeting is over and we went out for lunch. Some of my coworkers are in the group. I went directly and tried to talk to them but tegadalys told me no i can't talk to them anymore.

They took them to a place called Sendafa where the police college was at that time and kept them for two and a half years. Later I found out when I went to visit them there were more from the other departments too.

For those of us who remain behind were asked to write what was our actual job and bring the report to Debretsion. During this process, many peoples over exaggerate their participation to increase their importance to keep their job. That mistake makes them join the previous group in Sendafa.

On the other day, Debretsion called us for a meeting to create a grievance addressing the committee." ቅሬታ ሰሚ ኮሚቴ " I was chosen to be the chairperson.
I was a very gullible young man without knowing the gravity refused to serve in the committee. Debetsion immediately got up and said if the people choose you you have to serve this caused by Derg indoctrination maybe you need to be re-educated. Again, the election was for the committee chairman, treasury, and auditor position then I quickly said ok I will work as an Auditor. At that time i was also a third-year technology faculty-student and that job might fit me. He agreed and I become the Auditor

After a while we meet very frequently even he was studying first-year electrical engineering at the Technology faculty evening program. I used to help him with his homework especially in maths 101 by now dead Doctore Alemayehu Gemeda and other courses. And one day he asked me to make a presentation of our work in Operative Undertaking. After the presentation, he and many others were very impressed and asked me to make a training manual and a 7-week training for about 8 peoples and one of them was Debretsion Gebremichal.

I have thought and make real-time and mock scenarios on basics of intelligence services and handling of collaborators, precautions based on the guiding book in the simple language since most of them do not know the terminologies because of their level of education. They got frustrated easily ask me to skip that and this, Debretsion helped me a lot in keeping them in line.

For the remaining 6 weeks, we did many operations in real-time and make a tour of the already established control rooms, gust houses and so on.

Dawi here is the next one i teach this guy for seven-week i know how weeked this guy is.
I am back and will continue. During our real-time operational training, we surveiled(bugged or eves drop) a delegation lead by Hanfrey Almirah of the Afar region. According to his plan, Alimira booked a suite on the 6th floor of Hotel D'afrique. Debretion came to me with this information and asked me if we can seveil him. Then the first thing to address his question was to go and observe the rooms, he drove his Peugeot and drove straight to the hotel. We found out that we need at list 5 hours to do the bagging. However, Hanfrey was already on his way so we didn't have enough time.

I told Debrestion, the other option is to move him to other hotels where there is already prepared rooms for surveillance and told him the lists.
Guess what he chooses the cheapest one Tourist hotel in arat kilo. Comparing to D'afrique this was a two-star hotel and was not a good choice but he insists and told Hamfre Almira to go to other places because his room is already taken. The D'Afrique hotel front desk manager called me and said to me why are you doing this Hanfrey is our best customer. I told him it is not me and can't do anything. However, i told Debretsion what he did is againest everything that i thought him. He said don't worry these are nomads they do not know the difference.

To his surprise, Hanfrey Almira did not go to Tourist hotel but rather to wabishebele hotel and his entourage went to Tourist. Debretsion was so angry he went to Wabishebele and eject him from his room. Then at last Hanfrey went to Tourist hotel but did not say anything in his room and left the next day.

The second operation was around ቡልጋሪያ ማዞሪያ ቄራ ኣካባቢ ነው i didn't know who the target was till we reach there. According to the operative Undertaking guideline. When there is a probable target mostly the Ethiopian embassy on foreign soil will send a message and the security agency get approval from the judiciary branch and the signed copy came to our foreign intelligence department and the order will become to us. Usually the picture of the individual or the copy of their travel document and some bio. so we know who the target is. but in this one there are two problems one the target is our own citizen so our department can't do this it should be the internal affairs but at first i didn't know that so it was not a problem. The second problem is we do not know the target and there is no signed order. When i asked him he said no worries i will sign the order. Normally, the person who signed can't be the one who executes the operation.

Anyway, we prepared and went to execute the operation. As we reach there were four heavily armed policemen and as i get closer i recognized then Kinfe gebremedihen, kidane( wedi Aleqa) , Solomon Belay until last year he was the head of the foreign intelligence and Measho Kidane. They open the door and we went in with our team inside there were a few more.

we started our work. It was a residential house and as i went to from room to the next one i saw the picture of Lencho Leta the OLF leadership and immediately i asked is it his house and he replied yes. I took us about three hours and when we finish go outside of the house i saw the house made in another room guarded by Meresa and later also found out Lencho Leta himself was stopped on the road for about half an hour before he got into his house. Lencho Leta himself i think will remember this if he was asked by someone.

i share some of the points the guy raises but the insult is too much I wish he sticks to the point.

Ok, i am back and will continue.

The reason why he was stopped is to buy time for us to clear and evacuate the area. As soon as we reached back to our office, took a shower and test the equipment that we install if it works properly or not. I heard Lencho talking with another person but he was talking in Oromigna so I gave it to one of the Oromo TPLF members went home since it was late.

The next day Debretsion and Ahmedin Hagos, Measho Kidane didn't come to the training so i was not sure if I should continue or not because I don't want to do it again so the class was dismissed. The next day Debretsion and Ahmedin came very early and told me that today we have an operation and get ready. I asked the usual question, where is it we need to go and assess the place. He said to wait and after 30 minutes came and four of us went together. we were using Ethiotelecom service car and as soon as we reach there I recognized the place.
This place the old Ethiopian Police Club later during it Derg become the economic intelligence department and during TPLF it was OLF head office and I know the place inside out. Then two armed people came and after they talk with Debretsion let us in.

Ahemedin pointed out to be the room that they want to eavesdrop. I picked a telephone line testing apparatus from the car went in but i closed the door immediately went back to the car. Debretsion and Ahmedin asked what happened? I told them i know the OLF guy who was sitting in the room and told them he might know me. Without wasting time we left the place. I told them the person in the room called Gemal and he has been working in our office in the research and analysis department for a few months as a new employee during the end of the Derg regime. And at some point, I remember that he disappeared. Some people thought maybe he was kidnaped by some rebel groups other said committee suicide and the rest he might flee the country.
This guy a young but a bit older than me and a recent university graduate and we used to play table tennis some time but he was withdrawn most of the time. We didn't do anything that day and Debretsion was angry but i didn't care it was not my problem. Two days later he called me and told me that we are going again. This time with his Peugeot without any cover. The room was empty and actually, there was no one around in front of the room there is a basketball court usually many peoples would be there.

The other thing I noticed is at the end of the field in the last room there are to armed men sitting in front of a room and few peoples were confined in some with handcallf. I asked Ahmedin who are there? he said maybe their prisoners. After we went back to the office and tested the system.
after Debretsion asked me to separate the control room for the OLF office and Lenchos house to be in a Separate line and directed to a separate room where an Oromo speaking young guy they call him Ayana took the room.

During the transitional government የሽግ ግሩ መንገስት TPLF always know their agenda before the meeting and laugh at them untill they disarm and put 20000 olf in dedesa and tolay military camp and the leadership like Lencho fled the country.

So After this Debretsion felt the power of the intelligence department and got transferred from internal affairs which were located around the army hospital to this foreign department and enjoyed the cover too because the department is dealing with foreign adversaries only therefore there is no suspicion. At that moment Isayas woldegirgis was in charge of the department. then it looks Debretsion is his deputy. However, Debretsion looks down on all of the others because he is studying at AAU. one important thing that i want to add is about education during TPLF. As I mentioned he was studying at amist killo in the pre-engineering program and help him complete his homework, labs, and tutoring him during office hours. It is I guess about December he called me and said i am going to try the third year i do not think some of the courses are necessary. I asked him can you do that? Then after one week he came with a book i believe called electrical machines and said i am in the third year now in four months imagine.

I have seen the same thing in Solomon Belay ( wedi Belay) and Ahemedin Hagos They started in grade 7 in September and become grade 10 in three months. They were studying in a special school inside the 4th division ኣራተኛ ክፍለ ጦር ውስጥ መሹዋለኪያ ኣካባቢ military comp. later Ahemedin got his fake BSc to become the head of engineering in INSA and Solomon Belay was the head of the foreign affairs department that was led by Debretsion once debretsion was exiled to Tigray. There were many unbelievable things that i experienced. Here i just mention the main events but maybe i will write all the details and the main actors how the discipline of the profession is violated and undermined for individual benefit.

Now Debretsion was not that available every day he becomes a very important person in TPLF. Some times some TPLF senior peoples Like Hassen shifa Addis Abeba police commissioner, Getachew Asefa that time he was the in charge of the special security department, Kinfe G/medihin, Aranshi came to our office and waiting hours and hours to met with Debretsion usually he had one desktop computer learning Fortran program for an engineering class.

One day he called me to his office on the third floor and told me we have an operation a little different than before and be ready it is in the evening. By now, I have stopped asking about the target but Ahmedin was eager to learn and we talk a lot. I asked him who is the target and where is the place? He told me it is inside ኣራተኛ ክፍለ ጦር ውስጥ መሹዋለኪያ ኣካባቢ the 4th division military camp and the person was one of their own i believe Berehane G/christos or Christobal as they call him i think one of the general now.

we went around 10 pm and inside the camp and they showed me a small card board partitioned cubic office in a very big hall and told me this is it. The guy was handling their finance according to them. Basically, it was a big garage-like hall and needs a lot of material, therefore, it took more time than anticipated but we have finished. When we are trying to go out about 6 armed men on a land cruiser stoped us in front of the hall and asked me what are you doing here then Ahmedin and Debretsion jump in and start arguing with them in their tigrigna. It was very heated and lots of radio conversation and at last we left. I was so scared and the next day I asked for resignation but the answer i got i will let you know next.

The response I got from Debretsion was very shocking to me. He called me and read my resignation letter louder when he finished he said we know Dergist are cowards and he started to tell me the sacrifice that they paid for our freedom. He asked me if I know a mountain called Gunna I told him no I do not know he got more agitated and continued talking and said one day they attacked by Derg artillery and they retreat to the mountain until they are out of the artillery range. He continued to talk chuckling and his eyes filled with tears as the night approaches the temperature dropped below zero. He said they didn't know it is so-called at the sunrise almost half of their commanders who were outside were frozen to death. after three days very few of them sneak out of the encirclement and remained quiet for a very long time. I do not know how to respond and staid there.
After a while, he said loudly you will do whatever we tell you or you can go to Sendaf for indoctrination until you change your attitude.

Since that day they started to bring me a small Amharic newspaper called Revolutionary Democracy every Friday. the Tgrigna version is called Woyen and told me to read it. after few months Masho told me to pay 25 cents for the paper and I said no I do not want the paper and I will not pay for it. Also, they bring another guy called Mekebu and he asked me to join an Amhara party I got very angry and told him hell no but some of my colleagues join the party. Those were very junior to me and they came from technical school do not know much about electronics and zero about the operative undertaking. However, they started to undermine my work and even started to lock certain equipment.

I found out later they have been doing some operation without my knowledge. Actually, a couple of times they did a botched operation and debretsion himself came to my home asked me to fish the work, and the next day I got paid me 700 birr. In this situation i realized the only way out for me is to make those people capable of doing an operation by themselves and I worked very hard.

while we are in this situation I have told them to get ready for an operation and went together for assessment. It was the Ghion hotel Saba hall. They said there is a meeting and press conference with the opposition groups. We have completed the work tested. The next day the meeting started that meeting was the formation of the coalition of the Ethiopian democratic parties in Amharic ኢ.ድ.ሃ.ቅ led by Dr,Beyene petros they just came from the USA i do not know any of them. In the first hour, they make a press release and without any journalist or observer, they begin their closed meeting. As soon as the meeting ended Debretsion took the image and audiotape.

within an hour TPLF gave a press release condemning the groups and officially transmitted the meeting content. The same night Dr. Beyene Petros accused TPLF of spying on them because he said our meeting was a closed meeting and there is no way they can get the information before us.Debretsion and his boss Isayas were emboldened laughing and listening in front of Saba hall when Byene speaks.

By the way, Guna is a place in the vicinity of Deber Tabor, South Gonder/Gayint. The place is very very cold and with snow during some seasons of the year. As Debertsion exactly told you, at Guna there was a BIG war between TPLF and Derg and TPLF was heavily defeated with many causality and losses. The coldness/snow of Guna was too much for TPLF soldiers to cope up with and it contributed a lot for their defeat at that time.

The highest point in South Gondar is Mount Guna (4,231 meters) above sea level.

Realy? I didn't know much also was not interested that much but I can assure you that mountain shooked him to his core until he cried after such a long time.
Ethiopia has much-unappreciated beauty its people and the land also. Writing a book looks like a good idea but I am not a writer now because of Covid I got few breaks and the current situation in Ethiopia, I felt I should say something about the Psychic of these guys. Especially regarding The honorable Anna Gomez, when she came to Ethiopia as Observer, Koffe Anna, and many many African leaders and the multiple arrests of me and especially the main reason for the fall of Kinijit. Maybe if someone could make it a book it is good it can be more than two books including the derg era.

That was ignorance at its best. They are going against all principles of intelligence gathering. They continued this kind of operation by themselves and some times with some of my former coworkers who agreed to be the TPLF members, One was Oromo joined the Oromo group the other two joined the Amhara group led by Merkebu. Usually, I came to the office and test and maintain the equipment read and if they have difficulty they will call me to finalize the job sometimes also help debretsion in his homework and Ahmedin but not only that I like to use his computers too at that time it was a big thing for me and he didn't mind. Also since I was the Auditor for the grievance addressing committee i was investigating the workers club budget and capital. This keeps me very busy and liked it.

One day i received a call From Masho and Ahemedin they were out for operation and something went wrong and told me to come to the Wabishebele hotel i believe it on the 4th floor. After they installed the device when they test it didn't work. Actually, the device was not the right one because the supply voltage rating was too low, and burned it. The only solution is to do it again with another device we had very few of those devices. It was bought from Germany, Krefeld and very expensive.

Ahemedin and Masho went to bring another device while me and Debretsion and two guards that I don't know before. While we are there the targeted person came to his room and tried to open the door as we heard the key clicking debretsion told me to talk to him. Did I say why me? he replied ok ok I will talk to him. The door was locked from inside the guy tried and went down to the reception. Since i know the front desk manager, I called him and told him to delay the person by telling him his room flooded and it is out of service and offered him another room temporarily. Once the device came and finished the person returned to his room.

Once we completed the work and we are going back to the office i asked the t manager who the target was He looks surprised and told me someone called Mekonnen later i found out from the recording the person was a member of the All Amhara organization residing in England.

Our department had many pre-arranged gust house offices hotels and so on. I was sent to test one of our control rooms at one of the locations. There is a TPLF member called Tilahun he gave me a ride and tell me before you finish I will come and went to buy a smoke I said ok continue my work. All of a sudden about 8 armed TPLF came and told me to come out. I was so scared i did exactly as they said. He told me he is the Addis Ababa police commission commissioner and he wants to ask me some questions. I told him ok and told him that I know from our office before.

He said what are you doing here? who gave you permission to open this office and why do you come alone? I told him Debretsion is the one who sent me and I didn't come alone the guy went to buy smoke. He asked how the system is working so on and who is the person that we are spying on and said is it me?? I told him there is no definite target yet but I am just testing the system. He seems frustrated as all of them do when they do not get what they want. He said you come with us and give me the key to the room. I said take the key but why are you taking me please talk to Isayas and gave him his number. I called isayas and passed the phone to him in the meantime Thilaun came back and a big argument erupted. After three hours they let me go.

Lakeshore, you have an interesting biography and a piece of history at hand. This is part of Debetsion's history, the last "king of Tigray" that will fill some of the gaps for future historians. Write your own history by jotting whatever comes to your mind in Amharic if possible, if not mix Amharic and English. There are lots of smart journalists in Ethiopia who will help you in editing and shaping the book for little fee. You may also add to this some royalty from sales. You sound just like him Debretsion, whenever he faced with something he doesn't like or challenged, he always resorted to intimidation and force. As you might read in the future the same reason makes me write about it. When I saw him on TV and saying he will not surrender for being tortured and killed, I know he is a coward and was searching for a means to sell out everyone and save himself. That is the person I witnessed and when I hear the news, he is captured I believed them.

Just for the sake of addressing your tiny dought. You can ask the old Lencho Leta, Dr.Petros they are still in the current government, and many many peoples i do not want to put their names here who are still alive. And for the coming stories regarding UN and Like Anna Gomez and many African governments especially south Sudanese and many OLF peoples can witness do not worry about that and Debrttsion himself.

I came back again to continue from where I stopped.
Once those TPLF fighters went into camp all woyane members were not in the office at all. For almost a month we have been vibing doing nothing. After a month they told us they had a meeting for a month I could not believe it. How come someone will sit in a meeting for a month? But they just did, and I noticed a rift is created between them.
After a few days, the third guy after Debretsion called Merresa disappeared. He usually came to the gymnasium to watch volleyball every Saturday. I ask one of the woyane named Zerabrook, and he told me he is from a place called Shiraro, Meressa is arrested and he was criticized and warned for getting drunk. He also told me Debretsion is still under investigation. As I found out later, the reason why Debretsion in the later day exiled to Tigray for 5 years.

Debretsion:
When I see him the first time, he was very skinny and always look angry never smile. He used to come to the Gym every Saturday. He played table tennis. I used to play with him some time. I like to tease my opponents when I play tennis so, in the middle of the game, I switched my hand from right to the left and still lead him with about 5 points. He suddenly shouts at me saying play with your right hand. I said ok and switched back. After that, I was not comfortable playing with him, but he calls me sometimes to play because I play well.

Also, there is one beautiful girl who was working with us even before woyane. she also comes to play volleyball and tennis. Saturday morning is the mass sports day. if you do not participate in a sports activity you have been in your office working. Therefore, almost everyone comes out to play something. During this time I noticed him spending some time in the corridor and in the gym with her before the mass sport time.

As I mentioned before, even if Debretsion is attracted to the girl in our office and she was ready to get something in return. She asked me a very unexpected question. The first one is that since they have limited resources their life is very hard, and they have a problem retaining their recruits.
Secondly, it is the fear of exposure and military attack from government forces. Third, the over-promise during recruitment or kidnap their new members forcefully and usually, very young ones. Therefore, they must have a very strict rule to keep them in line.

For example, let us take the case of the Mujahidin’s in Afghanistan there was a very long documentary on RT tv about them based on the human rights report of child fighters. In their religion premarital relationship is not permitted since they are religious conservatives. The war for freedom took more than 20 years. The young fighters become adults and lose all their youthhood in the desert. As they become adulthood without any sexual interaction created a psychological pressure in the absence of females. So, having sexual intercourse with the fighters becomes very common, calming, and improves retention so this new norm becomes acceptable but not in open. This culture become so popular, they even started to have a party where the young fighters dance wearing as female cloth and they call them ‘Bacha Boys” the dancing boys.

Most of the rebel leaders have one or two Bach boys under the edge of 16. They take care of them and live relatively better than the average fighter. Even there are business groups who bring new young boys either by kidnapping or luring them for the rebel leaders. This culture spread even to the mainstream society around Pakistan and Afghanistan where strict religious rules are practiced still practiced as a way of earning money.

I believe Similar situations happened among TPLF members. while they were in the desert they ban any kind of relationship with the opposite sex and if caught it was punishable by long-time imprisonment some time even death. There was some Exception for the leader in the higher commanding echelon. For example, Melese Zenawi and Azeb Mesfin TPLF kept a blind eye on their infringement.

All the woyane leaders that I know, for example, Isayas Woldegiorgis had Asmelash as his guard. Debretsion had Tekelay, Masho Kidane had Ahmedin. I can witness the relationship was out of character. They were extra caring for them. Most of them do not have any money at that time but these boys always have few changes for tea and lolly pope yes, they like candy. Masho got married while I was there. There was a big fight between him and Masho during the wedding. The wedding was in the compound of internal fairs near Army hospital around the old airport.

The problem is that when they came to Addis Ababa and exposed to the general population it created a huge internal cultural shock. Many of TPLF members had a sexual relationship with both genders with their boys and prostitutes in Addis and many other big cities. Many of them fail to have a stable marriage. For example, Solomon Belay married and later he got separated. Ahmedin Hagos He married and have two kids but separated and his wife had a mental breakdown, Debretsion he had multiple relationships including the one in Taiwan or Singapore. He had one Tegadalay they said she is his sister, but I don’t think so, she was working with us and later on she went to the USA I believe she is his x wife. So sexual deviancy was a very common occurrence among the TPLF members. Sharing their wife’s other example, Azeb Mesfin had a boy from Kinfe Gebremedihen before Meles take her fully and caused his demise.

Prior to TPLF came to power Ethiopia had about 93 cases of HIV however a year after TPLF Ethiopia become the second-largest HIV-infected country in Africa if not in the world. Many TPLF members become victims of HIV. I know one she was the Head of Immigration and Consular her name is Kassech

She lived abroad and came after TPLF came to power she died of HIV. Alemseged Gebreamlak ( wedi Gura) he lost his sight and bedridden I believe he is still alive he lived behind the general post office.
