አማራ የሚባል ዘር ግንድ ካለመኖሩ ጋር ተያይዞ የአማራ ክልል በሚል የሚጠራ ሥፍራ መኖር ትርጉም አላባ በመሆኑ የክልሉ ስም አገው ክልል ወደሚል ተቀይሮ (ብዙሃን ስለሆኑ) ሌሎች (አርጉባ፣ ወይጦ የመሳሰሉት) ግን በዞን ቢደራጁ መልካም ነው፡፡ አሁን አማራ ክልል በሚባለው ያለው የኦሮሞ ዞን ወደ አባት ሀገሩ ኦሮሚያ ይጠቃለላል፡፡
