The military generals of Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed government — General Birhanu Tilahun and General Sofia Mohammed — abducted W/ro Qal Kidan Wube, the wife of one of Gojam's Fano leaders Mengistu Amar and mother of his children, from the Gerji area of Addis Ababa.
They separated her from her young children and have held her in secret detention center for over a month. The Abiy Ahmed administration is detaining a woman who has not been accused of any crime. This illegal and inhumane act deserves condemnation from every decent human being. Ethiopians both at home and in the diaspora, along with human rights organizations and advocates, must speak out against it.
She is not a combatant; she is simply the wife of a Fano member. Unable to defeat Fano on the battlefield, Abiy Ahmed’s government has resorted to detaining and punishing innocent civilians — in this case, an innocent mother — causing immense suffering to her children by depriving them of their mother.
