There was no arch of covenant during Axumite Empire or Zagwe dynasty.

The Church of Our Lady Mary of Zion in Axum was first built during king Ezana of Axum with no arch of covenant. The Agaw built lalibela to replace Jerusalem when Jerusalem was in trouble but there was no arch of covenant in there.
The Amhara imperials created the arch of covenant and Menelik I solomon dynasty saga to oust the Zagwe cushtic dynasty and legitimize their power expanding it further south.
The fairy tale of the arch of the covenant is a lie and not a christian thing. Very interestingly the primitive solomon dynasty empire survived for long based on non-christian saga.
The first christianity that came to the country never had covenant or solomon dynasty myth. It is the making of debteras to legitimize the Amhara kings power and this fairy tale still feeds into Amhara chauvinism, nationalism and fake supremacy.
