1. Having Arabic or Amara(Geez) names as a sign of being a Muslim or a Christian is a cultural colonization
2. Replacing with or corrupting Gurage names of places to sound Geez or Amharic is a colonial cultural genocide.
3. Gurage should start to re-learn everything it thought it knew about Islam, Amara and Ethiopia was wrong. It should look inward and honor its traditions and language.
NEBE registered Endibr(Indibr) as Emdibr. Growing up, I knew it as Endibr(Indibr). All Gurage call it Endibr. But now, they replaced n with m and corrupted it. Emdibr has no meaning in Chaha Gurage language.
The same goes for Gubrye, now changed to Gubre. Gunchirye to Gunchire. This pr*stitution of our culture by few well-placed Gurages and Amaras who come to work in Gurage should be defeated from destroying our traditions.
