Letter to the Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia

Subject: A Path to Lasting Peace, Economic Liberalization, and National Renewal
Your Excellency,
I am writing to you today with profound respect for the immense responsibilities you bear in steering Ethiopia through one of the most complex chapters in its modern history. As leadership requires balancing national sovereignty with the ultimate duty to protect human life, I urge your administration to firmly and permanently reject any path that leads back to military hostility with the Tigray region. Instead, the federal government should champion an era of deep economic liberalization, regional autonomy, and peaceful engagement.
Preventing a recurrence of the devastating 2020–2022 conflict must remain the absolute priority of the federal government. The scars of that war are still healing, and the current security challenges in the Amhara and Oromia regions serve as stark, painful reminders of the immense human and economic toll of internal conflict. Ethiopia cannot afford another front. Military solutions inside a nation’s own borders inevitably drain vital resources, tear the social fabric, and result in the tragic loss of innocent civilian lives.
To break this cycle, the federal government must look toward a framework that embraces genuine autonomy for the Tigray region. Allowing Tigray the space to manage its internal governance within the federal structure is not a sign of weakness; rather, it is a pragmatic strategy to safeguard peace and preserve the union. In fact, the Tigray region deserves recognition and praise for its efforts to maintain stability and adhere to the foundational security frameworks agreed upon post-conflict. By continuing to follow federal orders and respecting the cessation of hostilities, the regional administration has shown a willingness to stabilize the north. The federal government should reward this compliance with constructive partnership, not hostility.
Furthermore, it is critical to recognize the political dynamics at play. A return to war or a state of constant hostility directly serves the interests of hardline TPLF elites. For decades, entrenched political elites have used external threats and the specter of "endless instability" to deflect local criticism, avoid accountability, and mask internal governance failures. War provides an easy excuse for a lack of democratic progress and economic stagnation. By maintaining absolute peace, the federal government deprives these elites of a rallying cry, forcing them to face the peaceful, democratic scrutiny of their own population.
The true battlefield for Ethiopia’s future is not military, but economic. I strongly encourage your administration to refocus its energy entirely on the ambitious economic development and liberalization goals you previously championed. By opening up the state-dominated economy, encouraging private investment, and modernizing key sectors, you can unlock the immense potential of Ethiopia's youth. A thriving, interconnected economy creates shared prosperity, making the cost of war far too high for any regional actor to contemplate.
Your Excellency, true strength lies in the courage to choose peace when conflict seems easy, and to choose liberalization when control seems safer. By choosing peace with Tigray, fostering regional autonomy, and unleashing economic freedom, you can steer Ethiopia away from the shadow of the 2020 war and toward a prosperous, unified, and stable future.

The official language of Ethiopia is Amharic. The PM of Ethiopia speaks Amharic & Oromogna and to a degree Tigrigna. He understands street level English to a degree but he is not English speaker. In Ethiopia, only 1% of the population understand English language. About 1.5% of the population speak street level English. In parliament or in the entire government of Ethiopia only .1% of them can speak a full sentence of grammatically correct English.

በኢትዮጵያ ዘመናዊ ታሪክ ውስጥ እጅግ ውስብስብ ከሆኑት ምዕራፎች በአንዱ አገሪቱን ለመምራት የተሸከሙትን ታላቅ ኃላፊነት በጥልቅ በማክበር ይህንን ደብዳቤ እጽፍልዎታለሁ። አመራር ብሔራዊ ሉዓላዊነትን ከሰው ሕይወት ጥበቃ ሰብአዊ ግዴታ ጋር ማመጣጠንን የሚጠይቅ በመሆኑ፣ የእርስዎ አስተዳደር ከትግራይ ክልል ጋር ወደ ወታደራዊ ግጭት የሚመልስ ማንኛውንም መንገድ በጽናት እና በቋሚነት ውድቅ እንዲያደርግ አጥብቄ አሳስባለሁ። ይልቁንም፣ የፌዴራል መንግሥቱ ጥልቅ የኢኮኖሚ ሊበራላይዜሽን፣ የክልል ራስ-ገዝ መብት እና ሰላማዊ ተሳትፎ ዘመንን በግንባር ቀደምትነት ሊያራምድ ይገባል።
የ2020–2022ቱን አስከፊ ጦርነት ዳግም እንዳይቀሰቀስ መከላከል የፌዴራል መንግሥቱ ፍጹም ቅድሚያ የሚሰጠው ጉዳይ ሆኖ መቀጠል አለበት። የዚያ ጦርነት ጠባሳዎች አሁንም በማገገም ላይ ናቸው፤ በአማራ እና በኦሮሚያ ክልሎች ያሉ ወቅታዊ የጸጥታ ተግዳሮቶችም የውስጥ ግጭት የሚያስከትለውን ከፍተኛ የሰው ሕይወት እና የኢኮኖሚ ውድመት የሚያሳይ ህመም የበዛበት ትውስታ ነው። ኢትዮጵያ ሌላ የጦርነት ግንባር መክፈት አትችልም። በአንድ አገር ድንበር ውስጥ የሚደረጉ ወታደራዊ መፍትሔዎች ወሳኝ ሀብቶችን ማባከናቸው፣ ማኅበራዊ ትስስርን መበጣጠሳቸው እና የንጹሐን ዜጎችን አሳዛኝ ሞት ማስከተላቸው የማይቀር ነው።
ይህን አዙሪት ለመስበር፣ የፌዴራል መንግሥቱ ለትግራይ ክልል እውነተኛ የራስ-ገዝ መብትን የሚያረጋግጥ ማዕቀፍ ላይ ማተኮር አለበት። ትግራይ በፌዴራል መዋቅሩ ውስጥ የውስጥ አስተዳደሩን በራሱ እንዲመራ ቦታ መስጠት የደካማነት ምልክት አይደለም፤ ይልቁንም ሰላምን ለመጠበቅ እና አንድነትን ለማስቀጠል የሚያስችል ተግባራዊ ስትራቴጂ ነው። እንዲያውም፣ የትግራይ ክልል ከግጭት በኋላ የተደረሱትን መሠረታዊ የጸጥታ ማዕቀፎች በማክበር እና መረጋጋትን ለመጠበቅ ላደረገው ጥረት እውቅና እና ምስጋና ይገባዋል። የክልሉ መስተዳድር የፌዴራል ትዕዛዞችን መከተሉን በመቀጠል እና የተኩስ ማቆም ስምምነቱን በማክበር በሰሜኑ ክፍል መረጋጋትን ለመፍጠር ያለውን ፈቃደኝነት አሳይቷል። የፌዴራል መንግሥቱ ይህንን ታዛዥነት በጠላትነት ሳይሆን ገንቢ በሆነ አጋርነት ሊሸልመው ይገባል።
በተጨማሪም፣ በሂደቱ ውስጥ ያሉትን የፖለቲካ ተንቀሳቃሽ ኃይሎች መገንዘብ ወሳኝ ነው። ወደ ጦርነት ወይም ወደ ዘላቂ ጠላትነት መመለስ፣ የፅንፈኛ ህወሃት ልሂቃንን ጥቅም በቀጥታ የሚያገለግል ነው። ለብዙ አሥርት ዓመታት፣ ሥልጣን ላይ የቆዩ የፖለቲካ ልሂቃን የአገር ውስጥ ትችቶችን ለማስወገድ፣ ተጠያቂነትን ለማምለጥ እና የውስጥ የአስተዳደር ውድቀቶችን ለመሸፈን የውጭ ስጋቶችን እና የ"ማለቂያ የሌለው አለመረጋጋት" ጥላን ሲጠቀሙ ቆይተዋል። ጦርነት ለዲሞክራሲያዊ እድገት ማጣት እና ለኢኮኖሚ መቀዛቀዝ ቀላል ሰበብ ይሰጣል። የፌዴራል መንግሥቱ ፍጹም ሰላምን በማስፈን እነዚህን ልሂቃን የሕዝብ ማሰባሰቢያ መፈክራቸውን ያሳጣቸዋል፤ ይህም የገዛ ሕዝባቸውን ሰላማዊና ዲሞክራሲያዊ ቁጥጥር እንዲጋፈጡ ያስገድዳቸዋል።
የኢትዮጵያ የወደፊት እውነተኛ የውጊያ ሜዳ ወታደራዊ ሳይሆን ኢኮኖሚያዊ ነው። የእርስዎ አስተዳደር ቀደም ሲል በግንባር ቀደምትነት ያራምዳቸው በነበሩት ታላላቅ የኢኮኖሚ ልማት እና ሊበራላይዜሽን ግቦች ላይ ሙሉ ኃይሉን ድጋሚ እንዲያሳርፍ አጥብቄ አበረታታለሁ። በመንግሥት የተያዘውን ኢኮኖሚ ክፍት በማድረግ፣ የግል ኢንቨስትመንትን በማበረታታት እና ቁልፍ ዘርፎችን በማዘመን የኢትዮጵያን ወጣቶች ከፍተኛ አቅም ማውጣት ይችላሉ። የበለጸገ እና እርስ በርሱ የተሳሰረ ኢኮኖሚ የጋራ ብልጽግናን ይፈጥራል፤ ይህም የጦርነትን ዋጋ ማንኛውም ክልላዊ አካል ሊሸከመው ከሚችለው በላይ እጅግ ከፍተኛ ያደርገዋል።
ክቡር ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር፣ እውነተኛ ጥንካሬ የሚገኘው ግጭት ቀላል በሚመስልበት ጊዜ ሰላምን ለመምረጥ፣ እንዲሁም ቁጥጥር አስተማማኝ በሚመስልበት ጊዜ ሊበራላይዜሽንን ለመምረጥ ባለው ድፍረት ውስጥ ነው። ከትግራይ ጋር ሰላምን በመምረጥ፣ ክልላዊ የራስ-ገዝ መብትን በማጠናከር እና የኢኮኖሚ ነፃነትን በመልቀቅ ኢትዮጵያን ከ2020ቱ ጦርነት ጥላ አውጥተው ወደ በለጸገች፣ ወደተዋሃደች እና ወደተረጋጋች የወደፊት ሕይወት መምራት ይችላሉ።
ለሰጡኝ ጊዜ፣ ትኩረት እና ለኢትዮጵያ ሕዝብ ለምታደርጉት ዘላቂ አገልግሎት አመሰግናለሁ።

ክቡር ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትር፣ እውነተኛ ጥንካሬ የሚገኘው ግጭት ቀላል በሚመስልበት ጊዜ ሰላምን ለመምረጥ፣ እንዲሁም ቁጥጥር አስተማማኝ በሚመስልበት ጊዜ ሊበራላይዜሽንን ለመምረጥ ባለው ድፍረት ውስጥ ነው። ከትግራይ ጋር ሰላምን በመምረጥ፣ ክልላዊ የራስ-ገዝ መብትን በማጠናከር እና የኢኮኖሚ ነፃነትን በመልቀቅ ኢትዮጵያን ከ2020ቱ ጦርነት ጥላ አውጥተው ወደ በለጸገች፣ ወደተዋሃደች እና ወደተረጋጋች የወደፊት ሕይወት መምራት ይችላሉ።
