Key milestones and projects include:
* Grandeur Ceramic Factory: Inaugurated by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed in Mojo City, this massive 300,000-square-meter facility cost over two billion birr. It sources over 80% of its raw materials locally and currently produces 60x60 cm tiles, with expansion plans for larger formats and porcelain.
* Bajay Ceramic Manufacturing: Located in Tulefa (about 65 km from Addis Ababa), this $50 million plant spans 30 hectares and produces up to 50,000 square meters of floor and wall tiles per day. It is expected to cover up to 70% of the country's domestic demand.
* KAM Ceramic Factory: Located in Bishoftu, this 2-billion-birr project was built to yield 18,000 square meters of ceramic tiles daily.
Through these initiatives under the "Made in Ethiopia" initiative, the government aims to eliminate the need to import stone and ceramic products, conserving crucial foreign exchange and addressing logistical delays in the construction sector.
