For over 1/2 a century ethnic politics has been a driving force for political turmoil and rebelion in Ethiopia. The unitarian or multiethnic but one ethnic dominated leadership has mostly resulted in oppression of minorities and barely represented ethnics in obvious oppression or even abuse.

Ethnic politics has obviously compromised or reduced nationalist feeling leading to a loose union, at least theoretically. Unfortunately the ethnic politics in itself in many cases resulted in oppression of constitutional right of other minority ethnics specially in Southern nations where the so called KILIL adminstration was illegally denied to ethnics such as Gurage and Wolayta. This shows even ethnic politics has failed to address ethnic grievances.

The country still will need to address ethnic identity self expression and self adminstration questions in equitable way vis a vis maintaining a federated peaceful economically viable federally united country which is not impossible to do but requires will and determination.

The old unitarian or ልሙጥ government with ልሙጥ ባንድራ and culture has been a failure and since identity self expression questions are not going away the unitarian adminstration will likely not bring in any better rule as it has terribly failed in the distant past.

The best solution perhaps might be just reorganization and improvement of the current political and regional structure of the nation and democratization of the country!

Odie, the phrase is the b*stardization of the principle of the self-determination of conquered nations by foreign or internal army. It's a hostile phrase to discredit the validity of the movements for decolonization by those who stand to lose to stay as empires of colonial subjects.

The principle of self-determinations is enshrined in the Charter of the UN for decolonization of nations subjected to powers foreign to them by force of arms, by coercion and treaties of duress.

The ideas was first introduced by the US President Woodraw Wilson and accepted by the Soviet Union, voted for by the UN General Assembly to become a Charter to which all UN members approved by their signatures.

Don't fall into the trap of colonislist politics who have everything to lose when subject nations are free to govern themselves.

On the contrary, pleased with the attainment of self-rule of their regions, many have have willingly omved closer to appreciate the semi-federal gov. Somalis, Afars, Benishangul, Nuers, Omo Valley nations, etc. all proudly claimnto be Ethiopia. This is on individual.basis.

The Ethiopian army, dominated by Amara, Tigrey, Oromo, but with members from other nations, has not shown loseness in their loyalty to Ethiopia.
Ethiopian civil servants, working inneducation, health care, agriculture, foreign affairs, mineral extractions, etc, recruitted from all nations, have not shown disloyalty to Ethiopia in delivering their services. They have not beyrayed Ethiopia and sold its secrets to foreign nations.

There is no measurement that proved Ethiopian citizenship feeling declined from the era of the dark and oppressive Solomonic Dynastty. They did not care about Ethiopian unity other than silencing opposition to their tyranny in the dark and abyss Ethiopia was.

It won't bring peace and harmony. You used concepts designed by the empirist chauvinists to discredit and demean the movement of internally colonized nation to rule themselves. As if they have no cause, as if they hate the notion of a just and united Ethiopia. Concepts, narratives are tools, guides to achieve goals. You cannot reach a certain without aapropriate concepts.
