On April 5th, 1941, British colonial forces liberated Abyssinia from Italian colonization, and changed the new colony's name from Abyssinia to Ethiopia to erase its past history of Italian colonization that lasted from 1936 to 1941. 4 years later, the new nation of Ethiopia declared its independence in 1945.

When the British empire created Ethiopia in 1945, they made sure that their newest and largest African neo-colony heavily relies on foreign aid for its survival. Keeping the colony in debt bondage also cemented its fate as a mercenary state at the mercy of international creditors.
