1. He was talking to his own "Golden" people. The lady who asked him the question probably was chosen to ask the question.
2. His answer was derogatory and stupid. Like many other Ethiopian leader, Zenawi was known to despise or down look Ethiopians. He was known as "a leader who led a country he does not like". He was a Marxist Leninist, and he was dreaming himself to make people eat three times a day with his development government or development democracy or government lead development. I used to watch him on ETV to laugh on his corrupt speech.
The same ideology persists today although privatization and of sorts may be going on. Government should make policies and people should work to eat three times a day. That should never be the business of the government except for the needy. The Gov should help with Job creation, helping entrepreneurs to create job for the people.
Zenawi looked Ethiopians as his problem to feed like a baby whereas he himself, his liberation front was part of the problem.
He did not have to say what he said loud if he was a good/people's leader or real Ethiopian leader
Many still struggle to eat may be 2x a day in the country but they say his widow is a billionaire
