This is not a lesson on drone warfare and precision bombing. It is a lesson on targeted-killing, that is, the decapitation of the top enemy leaders in one sweep, to weaken an enemy and win the war.
In Eritrea, there is one institution of one-man-government led by the tyrant octogenarian Issaias Afeworki. If Ethiopia wants to resolve its conflict with the evil devious and envious leaders of the Arab world, it needs to remove their errand boy in Eritrea.
Given the modern technology at its disposal, Ethiopia does not need hundreds of tanks, thousands of artillery pieces, a million man army, hundreds of fighter air-crafts to win the conflict with Eritrea or Egypt.
It is very easy, just eliminate Issaias Afeworki. At any time, Ethiopia can have the information where Issaias is, what he is eating, when he is meeting, where he is sleeping ... Just target him and finish.

Learn this lessons from Israel and the USA.

The months of planning behind US-Israeli mission to target Iran's supreme leader

The attack that killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei came not in the middle of the night, as might have been expected, but in the middle of the morning.

That was because the US and Israel decided to take advantage of a piece of crucial intelligence that had arrived hours before.

For months, they had been watching for a moment of opportunity when senior Iranian figures might be meeting and they learnt Khamenei was going to be at a compound in central Tehran on Saturday morning.

They also had a fix on the location of other senior military and intelligence figures meeting at the same time.

For months the US and Israel had been tracking the supreme leader's movements. The exact methods they used are secret although US President Donald Trump in a social media post did hint at them.

"He was unable to avoid our intelligence and highly sophisticated tracking systems."

This could have been a human source reporting back but it may be more likely to be technical tracking of Iranian individuals. ...

What exactly did Israel or USA achieve? The structure is still there.
Ayatollah existed for 45 years because there are millions of Ayatollahs that worship the one-man executive structure.

The invasion is a desperate move of self delusion against knowledge that this political science scribbled state structure can no longer meet the economic need of its people. In fact, going forward, all that the one man structure can deliver is war. Political science will invent imaginary causes to perpetuate the condition.

The state will be rewritten! It is just a matter of magnitude of suffering that we are willing to go through before the realization that it is not them but us that gave them the structure of immense power that needs to face reality.
