The house we shelled was an Amhara house, not a civilian house.” — ENDF commander
Testimony of local residents interviewed on site by Mereb Media journalists in Tsefelamay Kebele, Lasta Woreda:
“At first, they deliberately bombarded the entire village with artillery, including a public service institution. We then sent elders to ask them to stop the shelling, telling them: you are destroying our property.
One of the military commanders responded: ‘The house we shelled was an Amhara house, not a civilian house.’
Shortly afterward, that same commander entered our village with the defense forces and shot dead seven farmers — including two children and one elderly man.
After first shelling it with artillery, they poured gasoline and burned 17 residential homes, including the kebele agricultural research center. They also took more than 67 of our goats and sheep.
At the time, commanders carrying long-antenna radios and accompanied by many soldiers were laughing and saying:
‘Unless you break the Amhara like this, they will not accept the Prosperity government and say amen to it.’
When this act was carried out, there were no Fano forces in the area. There was no fighting.”
