Is Ethiopia back at risk of “Amhara” ethnic supremacy?

Post by Odie » 18 Feb 2026, 22:28

Based on media and internet posts including based on participants of Mereja Forum, there is a clear risk the country is facing Amhara radicalism and supermacy manifestation further risking the future existence of the already torn apart country.
Any body could search a snapshot of the internet posts to corroborate the hypothesis.
It is not Amhara hate but it is Amhara supermasist ideology that is upticking currently destroying any future hope of peace in the country and this unhinged movement has to meet reality that it is not ok.
This is pretty much violation of others right and has to be discouraged although they have the right to opposition and organization in internationally accepted way.

WHAT IS SUPERMCY AND WHT IS WRONG ABOUT IT?

A supremacist is a person who believes that a particular group—defined by race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, or culture—is inherently superior to all others and should therefore dominate, control, or have higher status than other groups.
The term can apply to any ideology that advocates for the superiority of one group over others.

What is a Supremacist?
Definition: An individual or group advocating for the superiority and dominance of a specific group.

Types: race based, other types include male supremacy (misogyny), religious supremacy, and cultural supremacy.

Core Beliefs: They often believe their group is biologically, intellectually, or culturally superior.

Goals: The aim is typically to maintain or establish power, privilege, and social/political control over marginalized groups.

What is Wrong With It?

Supremacist ideologies are widely condemned because they are fundamentally discriminatory, anti-democratic, and harmful to society. Here is what is wrong with them:
Promotes Violence and Hatred: Supremacist movements often rely on, or promote, violence, terrorism, and hate crimes to achieve their goals. Creates Systematic Inequality: Supremacy is not just a personal belief; it aims to create or maintain unjust social, legal, and economic structures that privilege one group while disenfranchising others.
Examples include apartheid, Jim Crow laws, and slavery.

Dehumanizes Others: By asserting one group is "superior," the ideology inherently dehumanizes others, reducing them to inferior status.
Anti-Democratic: Supremacy rejects the principles of equality, human rights, and coexistence, which are vital for a healthy, democratic society.

Fosters Social Division: It promotes "in vs. out" mindsets that destroy social cohesion, causing fear and insecurity in communities.

Based on Falsehoods: Supremacy often relies on discredited theories, such as scientific racism, or distorted history to justify its claims.
Key Characteristics of Supremacist Culture:

Research indicates that these ideologies often manifest through specific, toxic cultural traits, including:
Perfectionism and a sense of urgency that hampers inclusive, thoughtful decision-making.
Defensiveness that protects power and resists critical examination of systemic issues.
Power hoarding by the dominant group.
"One right way" thinking, where alternative viewpoints are seen as threats.

With this don’t you think the Fano movement is Amhara supremacy movement? Clearly the movement, solely by Amhara, for Amhara superiority meets the criteria for supremacy unless they tame themselves rapidly!
Ethiopians watch out.

Amara supremacists won't come back. They are resented, ridiculed, shunned, avoided and have been friendless for the 30 years from almost all Ethiopians except Gurages and Welaitas. Everyone else spat on them, cursed and left them. Even Welaitas avoided them, especially to get the leadership of SNNPR and Prime Ministership of Ethiopia by HM Desalegn, they had to assure Tigreys and Oromos that they dropped Amara friendship for good. Only Gurages waited until Amara kicked us in the [deleted] to wake us up.
At last now, you and I, can openly say without hesitation or doubt of betraying a friend, "Fck Amara".

Am out!
They are self serving and toxic. They think the rest of Ethiopians forgot pains and abuses of the past and they feel entitled to do the same. Not on my dead body; afterall they won’t find me and I maintain my freedom!
