African leaders are calling out the false narrative pushed by Abiy Ahmed—that Ethiopia’s growth is blocked by lack of sea access. The Prosperity Party keeps repeating the “landlocked myth” to justify pressure on Eritrea’s port of Assab.
At the African Union summit in Addis Ababa, Abiy claimed Ethiopia’s “sovereign access to the sea” is key to stability in the Horn of Africa.
Translation: give Assab peacefully—or Ethiopia will take it by force.
Bottom line: Enough propaganda. Ethiopia already accesses 10+ ports for trade.
