Debunking Fiyametas Propaganda

Post by TesfaNews » 13 Feb 2026, 03:45

1. How much are doctors paid in Eritrea?
Most doctors in Eritrea are public employees or serving their national service, which keeps salaries significantly lower than global averages.
Average Salary: A medical doctor in Eritrea typically earns between $150 and $400 USD per month (approximately 2,250 to 6,000 Eritrean Nakfa).
• Specialists: Senior specialists or those working with international NGOs or private clinics (though very limited) may earn on the higher end of that range or slightly above.

2. How many doctors are in Eritrea
?
Eritrea faces a significant shortage of medical professionals, with many doctors leaving the country for better opportunities abroad (the "brain drain").
• Estimated Total: There are estimated to be roughly 250 to 350 doctors practicing in the Eritrea.
• Doctor-to-Patient Ratio: The ratio is approximately 0.7 doctors per 10,000 people. To put that in perspective:
Eritrea: ~1 doctor for every 14,000+ people.
• United States: ~26 doctors per 10,000 people.

• Distribution: Most of these doctors are concentrated in the capital, Asmara, leaving rural areas heavily reliant on health assistants, nurses, and midwives.

TesfaIdiot

At today's black market rate, $1=190Birr,
12,000 Birr = $63
18,000 Birr = $95
32,000 Birr = $168
If we use the official rate of $1 = 156 Birr
12,000 = $77
18;000 = $115
32,000 = $205
Eritrean salaries at $1=15Ern are
3,000 = $200
4,500 = $300
6500 = $433

In other words, dumbito; a junior Eritrean doctor's pay is equal to that of an Ethiopian Specialist.

Eritrea only has 350 doctors

Ethiopia having 12,000 means the pay is lower especially in rural area

Only cities like Addis must ensure higher doctor pay due to the high cost of living. I do agree that Dr abiy must double the salary of doctors in Ethiopia which will anger shanky shabos like you

Dumbito,

Do you think a person who gets $65 a month is a Doctor! He can't afford three meals a day!
