With advancing age, I increasingly recognise the importance of using the remainder of my life to achieve reconciliation with myself and with God.
Recent statements by Gedu Andargatchew, challenging Abiy Ahmedโs efforts to shift responsibility for war crimes and revealing that Abiyโs enduring hostility toward Tigreans was a primary cause of the conflict, have deeply unsettled me and prompted reflection.
Accordingly, of my own volition and without an axe to grind, I have decided to be at peace with my creator by extending, for whatever it's worth, my sincere apology to the people of Tigray. I regret that I had allowed myself to be influenced, even hoodwinked, by Abiy Ahmedโs harmful and toxic rhetoric during the 2020 Tigray War, although I refused to join the gung-ho โDefend Ethiopiaโ movement in the United Kingdom in support of Abiy Ahmedโs actions in Tigray.
My conviction that Tigray represents the cradle of Ethiopian civilisation remains unwavering, as does my hope that Ethiopia will become a genuine Motherland for all its citizens, without exclusion.
