Gallas were originally nomads herding livestock due to the droughts in Borana the Galla needed new lands to settle in that were arable so the first conquest began into Guji in 1424

Galla saw the war between Ahmed Gragn Adal army and the Abysinnian army of Lebna Dengel and Gewlawdelos

As Muslim Sultanates and Christian kingdoms drained their manpower during the war the Galla saw that as an opportunity to conquer both the Muslim and Christian Kingdom

By 1567 Galla was at the gates of Harar and by 1600s Galla entered the Gates of Gonder

The difference between Amhara and Harari/Harla was that the Amhara fought back and resisted while the Harla-Harari gave up fled to Harar city and built a wall around Harar to protect themselves from Gallas. Gallas essentially took all the lands around Harar town and assimilated all the inhabitants of Hararghe

In 1424 the Gadaa System was established in Adola Guji meaning Oromo lived in Guji at that time as well within Borana.

The frequent droughts in Borana led the Galla toward the highlands of Ethiopia and due to Gallas Nomadic skills they were able to migrate often. Gallas embraced horses and began to use horses to conquer new territory at rapid rates.

Once Gallas began farming in the 1650s they slowed down their migrations and conquests

There are other similar groups such as Somalis and Nilotic groups in that region who may have equally been affected by drought. What was peculiar about the Galla? Were they defeated by these groups and dislocated/ displaced? Or they defeated one or two these groups and then used the moment of victory to aggressively hunt for other victims of the north?
