Abyssinian-Adal War (1529–1543)
Christian Abyssinia was devastated, its churches burned, and its feudal military structure shattered by Ahmed Gragns Muskeeters
Muslim Adal was equally drained, having lost its charismatic leader, Ahmad ibn Ibrahim al-Ghazi (Gran), and much of its manpower.
Because both empires had spent their resources fighting each other, neither had the strength to defend their borders or maintain control over the southern provinces.

Oromo Migrate into Ziway 1522-1540s
The Ziway region was one of the earliest points of contact. Context: The Macha and Tulama branches of the Borana began moving north through the area between Lake Abaya and Mount Walabu. The Conflict:
During the height of the Adal-Abyssinia war, Oromo groups launched swift attacks on the states of Bali, Dawaro, and Fatagar (the area surrounding modern Ziway).
Result: By the 1540s, the Oromo had effectively encircled the Rift Valley lakes, isolating remnant Christian island communities (like the Zay people on Lake Ziway).
