Just go back a few years and review the region - a region where Egypt draws all kinds of RED LINES - an Egypt that bluffed to blow up GERD and own Abay Wenz.
Go back and review (reimagine) a Horn where the defunct Eritrea, the defunct Somalia, the non-entity Djibouti and & the chaotic Sudan were able to form and reform all kinds of hostile alliances against Ethiopia.
Simply go back a few years and try to see the then Horn of Africa.
Now look at Ethiopia and the region.
Look at the Ethiopian air force already armed with 4th+ generation combat jets and electronic warfare systems including SU-35s, Mirage 2000s and planning to acquire SU-57s.
The eternal Egyptian bluff is checked. All of Egypt's water carriers surrounding Ethiopia are given stern warnings. In short, UAE wants Ethiopia for its national strategic goals and Ethiopia wants UAE for our national strategic goals.
Both Bin Zayed and Abiy Ahmed seem to deeply understand the essence of power in the geopolitics, geoeconomics, war and peace.

Mirage 2000 is most advanced 4th Generation fighter jet. Ethiopian Air Force is currently a 4th Generation jets force and plans to be become 5th generation in 2030. For now, we are 4th and 4th + force. So it makes a perfect sense that UAE gave us 20 4th generation jets. UAE may already moving to 5th Generation jets. For example SU-57 is a 5th generation jet.
