The present political state of Gurage.

Now, each sub-group acts like an independent republic, especially the Christian section of Sodo and 7bet. Pulled to the Ethiopian center, but not to each other. Their Christian license allows admission to the center but not for acceptance of each other. Menelick and Haile lifted them up to higher role be their men in need when called upon.

Gurage under their leadership splintered and its parts behaving like independent kingdoms. Silte broke away. Welene wants, too. Sodo remains a pain in Gurage and wants to impose itsself on the remaining Gurages or else it wants out.
As we speak, under their watch Gurage is being terrorised by thugs from its kushitic minorities and neighboring Hadiya. It has lost lands, lives and properties. We have lost a whole sub-group of 7bet, one of the signatories at the formation of 7bet, the Mesmes to Hadiya.

Muslim Gurage are on the periphery of the center away from roles in the center. More engaged in trade and agriculture than the monthly pacycheks of Christians who are more educated therefore get empoyment in the center's bureacracy. Not surprising that the Muslims have not formed a common ground to fight off the alienation from the center. This majority Gurage has to assert itself for Gurage unity and its place in Ethiopia. The Christians though endowed with education and respect that came with it from Gurages, have failed to unite Gurage to its 19th C. and pre19th C. unity.
