Germany Links Horn of Africa Stability to Tigray Peace and Eritrea Ties ~ German Foreign Minister in Addis

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said peace in Tigray and Ethiopia’s relations with Eritrea remain central to stability in the Horn of Africa, as he arrived in Addis Ababa for high-level talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
On his first visit to the continent since taking office, Wadephul met the prime minister shortly after landing in the Ethiopian capital, where discussions focused on regional security, political developments and prospects for deeper economic cooperation.
Speaking ahead of the visit, Wadephul said Ethiopia carries “crucial responsibility for peace and stability in the Horn of Africa,” warning that unresolved tensions linked to the Tigray conflict and strained relations with Eritrea continue to pose risks to the region.
“The situation in Tigray and relations with Eritrea remain tense,” he said, adding that his visit aimed to encourage efforts toward “a peaceful balance of interests.”
