Ethiopia should recognize that Ethiopia's stability , peace & prosperity cannot be achieved with out securing a strategic deal with Egypt.
The corner stone of any deal with Egypt should include:
- Corner stone 1- Bake bigger cake together & share it
- - Building more dams in the Abay gorge and all rivers that are crossing Ethiopia to Sudan to use Ethiopia as a water bank for Ethiopia, Sudan, & Egypt . Both Egypt and Sudan, the USA ,other countries and multinational corporations to invest on the construction of the dams.
-2 Corner stone 2 -Securing peace & stability for Ethiopia and the region
Any agreement with Sudan & Egypt should be conditional to both Sudan & Egypt stopping direct and indirect interference on Ethiopian internal affairs which destabilizes it
- Corner stone 3- Any agreement with Egypt and Sudan should not violate the sovereignty of Ethiopia
- Corner stone 4- Economic contribution for Ethiopia
- Should provide economic advantage to Ethiopia
Ethiopia should be compensated by Sudan and Egypt on yearly basis for environmental protection and maintenance for erosion and reforestation
- Egypt and Sudan should pay Ethiopia on yearly basis for the water it goes to them in excess of the agreed water sharing formula ( Axumezan's proposal is Ethiopia to charge for the 50% of the water that crosses its territory and the remaining 50% to be provided to both countries free of charge )
- Corner stone 5- Any agreement with Sudan & Egypt should not be a zero sum game but a win-win agreement based on mutual respect and benefit
- Corner stone 6 - Flexibility to revise & exit the agreement
-Cornet stone 6 - Last but not least the issue of access to the Sea
This is not directly related to the water issue but critical for Ethiopia . Both Egypt & Sudan should give concrete & tacit support for Ethiopia diplomatic or military efforts to get access to the Sea
- Agreement should have exit conditions and clauses to protect the future generation of Ethiopia
- It should be revised every 25 years based on zero draft
