Abiy reportedly reportedly made a one-day, unannounced visit to the UAE, a trip so discreet that neither his own office nor Abu Dhabi bothered to acknowledge it.
A flight-tracking analyst, @AfriMEOSINT, followed the PM's aircraft and confirmed it returned to Addis Ababa this morning, despite the official silence.
To sell the illusion, PM Abiy reportedly used a brief phot opportunity in Djibouti as cover, followed by a carefully staged appearance at Addis Ababa’s Immigration and Citizenship Services (ICS) office immediately after landing.
So again, why the urgency and secrecy?
As the UAE’s influence in the Red Sea region, particularly in Yemen, Somalia, and Sudan, continues to shrink, Ethiopia, long a key transit hub for weapons, money, and gold tied to the destabilization of Sudan, seems increasingly uneasy about where that leaves it.
