Eritrea's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Sophia Tesfamariam , speaking on behalf of the Group of Friends in Defense of the Charter of the United Nations, strongly condemned the United States' invasion of Venezuela—including military strikes and the abduction of President Nicolás Maduro. She called for the immediate and unconditional release of the Venezuelan president.
