They were grouped within the diverse Southern Nations, Nationalities, and Peoples' Region (SNNPR), which many Gurage activists felt diluted their self-administration rights and political voice compared to larger ethnic regions.
Marginalization: Despite their economic success in Addis Ababa, they lacked a dedicated regional state, leading to persistent demands for their own region (a movement that intensified towards the end of this era).
Abiy Ahmed Administration (2018–Present)

Sodo/Kistane can keep its onlyFan club for OPDO/OLF/PP until it is swallowed whole by Oromuma!
Gurage has to sit up and plan its future instead of toiling and hoping for the best in a country where one ethnic group screws up plunders, and steals everything. Organizing and staying ready is the best decision whether Ethiopia continues or not. It is important to work and align with other strategically important ethnics that believe in respirocal respect and that hold similar vision for the future. It is important to train the youth in basic life defence and have self defence equipments. Any one who believes in Gurage marginalization and its salvation but working otherwise, specially subjugating the region to Oromuma should be condemned and action should be taken as necessary. It is shame for Gurage to run its media in Oromo broad casing service and making an Oromo its regional leader!

I feel you. Gurage has existential threat more than Amhara. When Gurage elders chose to ease tension with OPDO-PP two years ago, I completely understood them. I said that they have chosen this because Abiy & Shimelis threatened them to do the same thing to the 1 million Gedeo people. If Oromo threatens Gurage, it does not mean the Gurage leaders should play lame duck. There are a lot of ways to play a political game safely. As you said Gurage has existential threat that was partly protected by the stable country that was there in the distant past. Oromuma is not going to be there forever. The country is in intensive care unit and plan B is a must to find out who could be long term strategic partner that could range from the north or South. I really don’t like the way the Grage politicians play the game with Oromuma. One can simply say now Gurage is annexed by Oromuma. Just wanted this fact to come out to sunshine. Actually even heard the Gurage leaders in place are so corrupt, investors have to pay for any investment they carry out in the region. These are puppets including the region head who is an oromo who grew up among gurage. I have no idea how this happened!

2) FANO is Ethiopia. With its brand, the 3 colours Ethiopian flag. FANO is well organized to inherit ENDF and it will do just that. Ethnic constitution will be dismantled and Liyu force will be abolished. Ethnic politics, ethnic slurs and ethnic discrimination will be outlawed. A new constitution will be drafted and we will move on.
Obviously, Oromo and Tigray will not accept the change. The prudent thing is to accommodate their request for independence and work for loose federation. Just like what Russia did. The Ethiopian federation: Oromo, Tigray and Ethiopia. In Ethiopian terms with clear boundaries in economy and politics.
Gurage should never have behaved crazy like this. They can simply stay neutral and lie low instead of burning all the bridges as if there is no tomorrow. They are now vulnerable for Oromo takeover. Shimelese is working hard to make it happen. Remember, the Oromos worked 500 years for this opportunity. Now, the Guraghies seem to accept that even they don’t nobody is gone give a f about it. No, AI did not get it wrong. People who grew up in the region can tell you the truth. Up until land was taken by the Socialist regime, the land was variously owned by the Nobility. Mostly Gurage themselves but aligned with the system and paying taxes from their spoil. The poor peasant was a victim of serfdom. Tax was exorbitant. The landless farmer had to till a land owned by a nobility for a small return. Don't be deceived by the density of the region which I believe was created by past wars, Oromo migration etc. Neftegna from other ethnics usually resided in bigger cities and reinforced their rules through local nobility. However, everybody at least had a country and peace which is lost now. There is a general grievance that Gurage could not achieve self-administration of their region. Culturally suppressed including its language in self-motivated way to accept the ruling class culture. Of course, good cultures of other ethnics always made it to the acceptance of the ruling class. Some Gurage dialects such as MESMES died out. Politically Gurage got alienated (by the systems as well as self-motivated redirection to business as Jews did in Europe). Why do I raise these? Because I believe Gurage has to be self-conscious about politics, the right to self-administration and preservation of useful culture (not damaging ones) and be active in the countries major issues outside of business too (I am not talking about Sodo Gurage that always favor piggy backing ruling systems to get benefit than raise major Gurage issues). I am not suggesting Gurage should dwell on what happened in the past like the Oromos and Tigrayans are doing. Gurage has to work to redeem its current and future status including the right to defend itself in all peaceful ways possible and defend itself in all ways possible when its existence is threatened. The elites come and go with their evil rules and ideology, but the poor people are the ones who carry the brunt of their evil experiment in all regions of Ethiopia. By the way, believe me, Gurage never had a right politician representing the broad interest of the grassroot people. Biramtu Nega is a person who grew up in Nazareth, basically he is just one of the Oromumas and he told Gurage he is not a Gurage. Those who tried to echo back the cry of the poor people were abused, imprisoned and killed by Abiy regime and their parties were disbanded, hunted.
