Why Did Woyane Promote Amharic at the Expense of Oromic, and Why Is Biltsigina Doing the Same Today?
The answer is clear: both Woyane and Biltsigina want the conflict between the two major nations to continue so that they can rule more easily. Because of the historical privilege given to the Amharic language, Amharas are still perceived by many oppressed nations in the empire—including Oromos—as oppressors, even though Amharas themselves were and still are oppressed and exploited by both regimes.
Both Woyane and Biltsigina could have resolved the language conflict between Amharic and Oromic by either making both languages federal working languages or by limiting each language to its respective regional state while adopting English as the sole working language of the federation.
We long believed that Woyane and Biltsigina were allies of the Amharic language, but this reality shows that the manipulation of dictatorial regimes has no limits. Both regimes merely instrumentalized Amharic for their own political advantage.
