Generational genocide of the youth in Ethiopia and its impact: the case of another war "ቅማል ማራገፍ"

50+ Years of Revolutions and Their Impacts on Ethiopia
Incessant youth genocide by Derg, EPRP, TPLF, OPDO/OPPF/PP:

1. Leadership Replacement
1974 DERG revolution: Military replaces monarchy; elites and professionals purged.
1991 EPRDF/TPLF takeover: Rebel groups replace the military regime; political competition suppressed.
2018–present (Prosperity Party): Internal party shift followed by new conflicts (Tigray, Amhara, Oromia).
Pattern: Power changes mostly through force or internal struggle—not stable democratic succession—leading to weak and politicized institutions.

2. Impact on Science, Education, and Development

Brain drain: Repeated migration of skilled people due to violence and repression.

Disrupted education: Universities politicized; research underfunded; innovation halted during wars.

Lost youth: Generations diverted into conflict instead of education and productivity.

Result: Human capital never accumulates steadily, limiting scientific and technological progress.

3. Economic Impact & Current Deficit
Constant war expenses drain resources away from education, health, and industry.

Destruction of infrastructure and agriculture reduces productivity.

Debt accumulation and inflation caused by borrowing and economic shocks.

Weak industrialization due to policy resets, instability, and investor withdrawal.

Outcome: Low productivity, high military spending, and repeated conflict create today’s fiscal deficit and long-term economic problems.
Overall Long-Term Consequences
Fragile institutions
Recurrent conflict
Low human capital
Slow development
Chronic economic instability

Eventually because of the loss of the young bright generation through ruthless killing for power the country is impacted negatively resulting in incompetent leaders and army of cadres.
