The critical realization we must internalize is that in the Ethiopian political theater, there is nothing sacred. Agreements, compromises, treaties, and the simple act of keeping one’s word are not binding moral or legal commitments; they are merely temporary instruments of political convenience, disposable the moment circumstances change. This fundamental instability, rooted in a history of prioritizing internal power struggles over regional stability, means that enduring peace or predictable cooperation will never originate from Addis Ababa. We owe it to the generation that fought for our independence and to the generations yet to come to face this reality without sentimentality.
