ETHIOPIA ― A leaked video making the rounds on social media today shows Ethiopian generals evaluating their own disastrous battlefield performance.

The details are too humiliating to recount, but among an array of failures reportedly discussed:

▫ Wasting artillery shells and bullets by firing blindly at empty areas long after the enemy had withdrawn

▫ Abandoning tanks and hiding in nearby farms whenever mortars landed nearby

▫ Leaving tanks behind when they got stuck in ditches

▫ Tanks flipping over due to poorly trained operators, even on flat terrain

▫ Soldiers and tank crews showing visible panic and fear

▫ Lack of coordination between mechanized units and infantry

▫ Running out of ammunition mid–counteroffensive operations, etc.

Given these admissions of incompetence, it explains why, after more than two years of fighting, the army has failed to defeat even a lightly armed militia, such as Fano and OLA, let alone to challenge the far more capable, highly disciplined and battle-tested force like Eritrea’s.
