Why did the zero-sum country willingly put its hands on Egypt's throat

Nobody forced Ethiopia to put a chokehold on Egypt's vital signs. What I don't understand is why put yourself willingly in such a geopolitical trap. Why such unforced error? Zero-sum mentality?

Why did the zero-sum country willingly claim another country's sovereign territory? Why put yourself in geopolitical traps? ዘፋኝ ኣሳሳተኝ ነው ነገሩ? ደስ የሚል ወኔ የሚቀሰቅስ ዘፈን ሰሚቸ ተሳሳትኩኝ?

ፅዮናውያን ጌቶቻችን ታሪካዊ ጠላታቸው ለሆነችው ግብፅ ጎሮሮዋን አንቀው እንዳትተነፍስ ለማድረግ የዓባይ ወንዝን እንዲገደብ አዘዙ። እኛ ኢትዮጵያውያን የታዘዝነውን ትዕዛዝ ለፅድቅ ብለን በጥሩ ሁኔታ ጨርሰናል ብዬ ነው የማስበው።
