Eating pork is generally not a healthy preference. Much of Ethiopians including me don’t eat it because of Ethiopian EoC and muslim influence which originates from old testament. ስኮናው ክፍት ያልሆነና የማያመንዥክ አትብላ:: New testament emphasizes nothing about pork eating and can be eaten. We are in era of grace not law though we do reinforce law. If you don’t eat pork, it is healthy choice. Even good to be vegetarian for health but many devout christian’s don’t encourage to be vegetarian as God allowed to eat animals and you need high proteins at time of fasting! Pork eating in areas where food is scarce and people have no weight issues should actually be encouraged than people die of starvation!

This guy is a controversial nutrition advisor, not even nutritionist. Some call him pseudoscientist too. He promoted eating [deleted] for gut health. [deleted] is saturated unhealthy fat unless in moderation. He advocated avocado etc which is good in moderation as it can cause weight gain when more than one fruit a day. About him you can find in Wikipedia. Don't listen nutrition shows and alternative medicine. With today's digital media explosion, a lot of fake things are there. Read real things or scientifical recommendations, apply common reasoning and follow sound principles in what you do and eat. With regard to nutrition there are generally recommendations from American cardiology association for heart health, from diabetic association for weight based and carbohydrate consumption recommendations and there are nutritionist recommendations too. These so-called gurus and internet celebrities are a disaster as they promote not evidence-based things. The gut-based eating style has gone off the roof and became stupid too with too much emphasis

Yea, the diseases you get from pig could be scary (trichinella spiralis, Taeniasis). This is generally in poor countries where animal inspection and treatments are limited. Even the beef Ethiopians like can give a person a tape worm. Some people don't eat raw beef because of this and if they get infected, the treatment makes them seriously sick.

A lot of people eat even wild boar, baboons, apes..snakes, dogs and insects and all sorts of wild animals (Asia) .If you go to Kenya, they have restaurants where you can taste the meat of all sorts of game animals including croc. Some eat everything from pig. Food varies by culture and what others consider delicious are not accepted by other cultures. Some people eat everything for adventure  For example, some Africans like to eat hove, creeping reptiles. Many eat horse etc. Even a fish in Asia can give fish tapeworm. It is up to a person to choose what to eat and not to eat for health reason and delicacy based on the particular culture that person came from. In the age of grace, food is not prohibited if you thank God and eat it. But many of us are faint hearted to try out all these. How many of use dare to taste all sea foods? Ethiopians are picky eaters and no wonder they easily starve to death

Globally, the most consumed meat is pork, accounting for about 36% of total world meat consumption, followed closely by poultry (33%) and beef (24%). While chicken is the most popular in countries like the United States, pork is especially popular in China and other European countries.

…Ethiopias easily stave o death

"Ethiopians starve to death"
That is my understanding and observation. No word mincing. Ethiopian farmers did not even want to eat their ox during famine time in the 80's. It was reported animals and people died because people did not even want to eat their cows they consider as family member, both died side by side instead. Quote: "Ethiopia is known for food insecurity and limited variety for the average person, especially outside cities. Starvation and undernutrition are still real issues in parts of the country, although not as extreme as during the 1980s famine."

What is the typical Ethiopian food made off? injera, vegetables, GENFO in south and Oromo, may be CHECHEBSA, seeds, legumes and if someone affords poultry, dairy products and meat (ship, poultry...) (which may not be available in all rural areas). All these are sourced from animals and plants/vegetables all of which run out during drought or environmental shock. Pork is not touched because of religion; sea foods except fish are not available or eaten. The Ethiopian food may be clean, tasty and culturally unique but pretty much the same all the time. Enset, for example, (drought resistant) not popular throughout the country except in South and Addis where Kocho is poplar. Beles in the North is not commonly eaten in the South. Rice has been introduced during Derg time. Farming generally remains subsistence type. The Ethiopian population is exploding, despite war taking its share, requiring the country to feed more mouths. Now may be a bit better but Ethiopia is globally known for not being able to feed itself. I was ashamed in one class a while ago, the country was being exemplified for famine etc. SIMPLY THERE IS NO QUESTION ETHIOPIANS LACK DIVERSE FOOD AND ENOUGH FOOD specially the poor and the countryside where all is dependent on subsistence farming and rain. Cities may diversify food from imports as well. Because of religion, there is obviously food taboo in the country. Ethiopians have to learn eating may things as stable food including maize, potatos, enset, beles etc at national level. There is high prevalence of undernutrition/malnutrition specifically protein calorie deficiency in Ethiopia. Simple search of documents will show that. Asians eat insects to increase their protein need. Now in Ethiopia animals have become export commodity which affects availability of animal protein. So, people have to diversify their source to meet protein calorie need.

Well, many people in the cities in Ethiopia nowadays get cardiovascular disease. That is true but there are many reasons for that. These uncommunicable diseases are increasing in the whole Africa. Nothing special. When life expectancy increases people die of cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and conditions like dementia. That is what happened in developed countries. In poor countries people die of infections and other preventable disease at young age. So, the older people stay, the richer they become the die of these chronic diseases. These are disease of the middle and upper class. There are a lot of filthy oligarchs in Addis who can die of these. That is when people start to have preferences, they start to choose what they eat to prevent diabetes, cardiovascular disease etc. These are the haves, and I was talking about the have nots. I have not been talking about the thieves in Addis who teach their kids outside, they go out to another country for vacation many times a year and who have food choices of the developed countries. That is prosperity party. I am mostly talking about majority of Ethiopians that often die of hunger, malaria, TB and other preventable disease.

You and others, perhaps including me live in affluent countries where we talk about food choices, where food habit became a religion. These kinds of people cannot impose their idea of nutrition on the Ethiopian poor who may not have enough food to survive.
By the way vegetarianism itself is a religion, primarily sourced from Buddhism where they don't eat but worship cow/ox and other animals. The best food habit is diversifying from all sources. Although I tend to be less meat eater, I am not fascinated by vegetarianism originating from eastern mystique. It is still good to eat meat or animal products in moderation.
About pig tapeworm, as far as the animal is handled per standard guidelines and inspected by appropriately trained people, that is not a major health issue in developed world anymore. It is a risk for people who rear uninspected pigs and eat inappropriately treated pork. That cannot be used to scare others not to eat pork.

Don't you think we are too proud of our things? I really don't like that. I prefer to be open-minded and changing person that does not stay kind of with the same cup I drink coffee admiring it forever. Where does the food that we see in rich countries come from? All varieties from all over the world. Including Plantin, casava, quinoa, rice. Even Teff  I wish all that versatility of food was available in Ethiopia too. I know economy may be a limiting thing here. But we despise everything known in the world. There is a saying, when Menelik brough a phone, the priests advised him by saying it is the devil's thing, and he should not be using it. There is another saying, Ethiopians, despite they are despised themselves by others, despise everybody in the world. They give names to everything and everybody while they have not enough of something or they don't have it at all. Farmers refusal of not wanting to eat their farm animals was not something foreigners said. It was spoken in Ethiopia orally which I heard when I was there, but I cannot get you document in that. True the country should increase its harvesting by changing the style of farming, land management and large-scale farming both self-sufficiency and export in mind. That will need fertilizer, policy change in land ownership etc.. which requires political will. The political will and policy change has never come despite so called leaders changed many times. The status quo remains the same. In the meantime, people have to adapt eating different things, there is no question about it. I don't want people stuck with their habit that has been there for millenia. I want people life and living style to change. I am a person who likes changes. I am not saying that the way ethnic politicians do it. We are not yet there where we can implement good principles or scientifically supported ideas. This is just a discussion. Eating the same thing for breakfast, lunch, dinner is not healthy. That is not only for injera. Depending on the region people happen to eat the same thing over and over. If you go to the south, kocho is eaten over and over again. Once I met an Ethiopian who married a European lady and brought her to Addis. Yes this happened before my eyes. He fed her firfir in the morning, wat in the afternoon and injera come in another form in the evening. She complained to the extent they had trouble. Ethiopia is a very large country with different whether pattern, with good lakes and rivers. People need nutrition education and of course eating different things. Even with the small food variety the country has, there is taboo and there is tendency to avoid one food over the other. With increasing population and many other things one of the things that should change is eating habit and mixing what people eat at home. Someone went to a developed country for education. All the food he used to eat in his country were not even in store. The person was not used to eat any of the food in the supermarkets and that person had to starve for quite a while until some African friends thought that person how to cook rice  Many of our people travel with DIRKOSH or the likes when they travel. I don't think that is because it is the healthiest dish available. They are not used to eat different things. Personally, I don't carry anything from home when I travel. I don't ask anything to be sent to me from home. I should survive with what I have around, although injera is still coming home by some reason. I don't hate it coming home but the one coming from Ethiopia is terribly sour and not clear what they mix to preserve it. The one they bake outside Ethiopia is not generally a healthy dish for weight conscious people. Yes spaghetti, macaroni, cooking pizza all this should be part of the diversified eating habits of the people of Ethiopia-where weight is not an issue or no other precluding health issues. Although some of the food available or prepared in Ethiopia could be healthy, I don't believe we have one of the best diversified food or enough calorie-protein content in the diet of average joe in Ethiopia. I hate food nationalism and food war. The main objective of eating is not to run hungry/unhealthy and lead a healthy productive life. It does not matter what you eat to achieve that as far as it is healthy and enought
