Continuation of the National Emergency With Respect to Ethiopia

On September 17, 2021, by Executive Order 14046, the President declared a national emergency pursuant to the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (50 U.S.C. 1701 et seq.) to deal with the unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States constituted by the situation in and in relation to northern Ethiopia.

The situation in and in relation to northern Ethiopia, which has been marked by activities that threaten the peace, security, and stability of Ethiopia and the greater Horn of Africa region, continues to pose an unusual and extraordinary threat to the national security and foreign policy of the United States. For this reason, the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14046 of September 17, 2021, must continue in effect beyond September 17, 2025. Therefore, in accordance with section 202(d) of the National Emergencies Act (50 U.S.C. 1622(d)), I am continuing for 1 year the national emergency declared in Executive Order 14046 with respect to Ethiopia.

Federal Register
and transmitted to the Congress.

Jawar Mohammed - The ongoing civil war in Ethiopia continues to claim lives across the country. In the past two weeks alone, more than 600 members of the militia, police, ENDF, and the so-called “Counter-Insurgency Force” (Riphee) have been killed within just 100 kilometers of the capital.

The fighting has taken place in several areas, including Kuyyu district in North Shewa at the village of Uyee Gosee, in Dagam Ali Door also in North Shewa, in Shaggar Sululta at Hexoo village, in Bora district of East Shewa at Laaffeessa Garmajjii, and in Gindabarat in West Shewa around Kaachis.

Among the dead was a commander of the Oromia Special Force, Commander Geetachoo Bazzuu, whose burial is taking place today in Bishoftu.

Meanwhile, the regime has intensified forced conscription, drafting young people into the ENDF and their fathers into local militias.

By the way, Eritreas total Red Sea coast line is about 2,234 kilometers. International law stipulates that territorial waters to be 12 nautical miles which is about 22 kilometers and the average depth of the Red Sea is 1.5 kilometers. So, the total amount of water in Eritrean Red Sea is approximately 1.5 × 22 × 2234 = 73,722 cubic killometers or 73.722 Trillion cubic meters. Nigat, in Abiy's illiterate words, is holding more water than Eritrea's Red Sea.

At one of the biggest stages of his career, the inaguration of the GERD, Abiy included in his speech what clearly shows that he is a 7th grade drop-out!

He said that the dam is now holding 74 Trillion cubic meters of water (actually, it is 74 Billion). If that were all, it would be excused as a verbal slip, because as any high-school drop-out could figure out, if the dam was 1,000 meters deep, it would have to have an area of 74,000 square kilo meters to hold that much water. But it wasn't a slip of the tongue. Abiy goes on to say that if each cubic meter were valued at 25 cents, the total value of the water would be 17 Trillion birr (actually 18.5). He then goes on to say that Ethiopia's current GDP is 15 Billion birr (about $110 million).

This is really bizzare! But then we remember this dimwit is only a 7th grade drop-out!
