የህዳሴው ግድብ መዓት ጋሬጣዎችን ተራምዶ ለምረቃ መድረሱ ትልቅ ሀገርዊ ስኬት ነው። የምረቃው ስነ- ስረዓት ግን ሀገራችን የደረሰችበትን ዲፕሎማሲያዊ መገለል ቁልጭ አድርጎ ያሳየ ክስተት መሆኑን ሳናመነታ መቀበል አለብን። በስነስረዓቱ የብዙ ሀገራት መሪዎች እንደሚገኙ አብይ በድፍረት እና በኩራት ለብልጽግና ደሴት ነዋሪዎች ሲናገር ነበር። ይህን ተስፋ ለማሳካትም ከመቶ በላይ የሚሆኑ የአፍሪካ፣ ኤሲያ፣ ላቲን አሜሪካ፣ ሰሜን አሜሪካ፣ አውሮፓ፣ እና ሩሲያ፣ እንዲሁም እንደ የተባበሩት መንግስታት ድርጅት (UN) ፣ የIMF፣ የWorld Bank አመራሮች ተጋብዘው ነበር። በኤምባሲዎቻቸው በኩል ከተላከው የግብዣ ደብዳቤ በተጨማሪ ጠቅላይ ሚኒስትሩ፣ የውጪ ጉዳይ ሚኒስትሩ፣ የደህንነት ሹሙ፣ ኢታማጆር ሹሙ ወ.ዘ.ተ ስልክ በመደወል ተማፅነውም ነበር።

ለመንኛውም እህን ዲፕሎማሲያዊ መግለል ለምወጣት ጠንክረን ካልሰራን የባሰ ውርደት ይጠብቀናል። ለዚህ ደግም ዲፕሎማሲያዊ ውድቀቱ ዋና ምክንያት ሀገሪቷ በእርስበርስ ጦርነት እና ኢክኖሚያዊ መድቀቅ ምክንያት፣ በአህጉራችንም ሆነ በአለም የነበራት ቁመና መመናመኑ ስለሆነ፣ ጦርነቶችን አስቁመን ሰላምና መረጋጋት ሰፍኖ ኢኮኖሚው እንዲንሰራራ ተግተን መስራት አለብን። ይህ ደግም አብይ አህመድ በስልጣን እስካለ የሚታለም አይደለም። አብይ ከተወገደ በኋላ እንኳ እሱ የፈጸውማቸውን ዘርፈብዙ ዲፕሎማሲያዊ ስህተቶች እና ጥፋቶች አርመን ሀገራችን ወደተሻለ ደረጃ ለማድረስ ብዙ ጊዜና ድካም ይጠይቃል።
A Ceremony That Laid Bare the Potemkin Party’s Diplomacy
The inauguration of Ethiopia’s Grand Renaissance Dam (GERD) was staged to project triumph, but instead it exposed the staggering diplomatic isolation of Abiy Ahmed’s government.
For weeks, Abiy and his loyal cadres worked tirelessly to inflate the spectacle. They boasted that the world’s most powerful leaders would descend on Addis Ababa: Vladimir Putin, Xi Jinping, senior American officials, and a parade of African, Asian, and Caribbean dignitaries.
Invitations were scattered to every corner of the globe, letters to the UN Secretary-General, IMF chiefs, and World Bank executives. Ministers, generals, and intelligence chiefs were deployed to personally lobby anyone with an international title, all in the hope of manufacturing legitimacy.
Abiy himself toured Europe, pleading with France, Britain, Italy, and Germany to dignify his ceremony. Yet when the stage lights went up, only one head of state stood by his side: Kenya’s William Ruto. Every other heavyweight stayed away.
The embarrassment was so great that Abiy’s team resorted to desperate measures. With the UN Climate Change Conference coinciding in Addis, his administration begged visiting delegations to make a token appearance. After consultations with Cairo, the leaders of Somalia and Djibouti agreed to attend, joined by a frail South Sudanese president and the barely noticeable prime minister of Barbados. This was the best Abiy could salvage from his supposed global gala.
The humiliation was sealed when Antonio Guterres, the very man touted as the guest of honor, flatly declined both the UN conference and the inauguration. Organizers scrambled, elevating Ruto to “
chief guest” in what looked more like improvisation than statecraft.
The absurdity was striking: Abiy’s Potemkin Party (PP) dared to imagine Putin or Xi flying across continents to endorse his vanity project.
Yet even Ethiopia’s traditional patrons, France’s Emmanuel Macron and the UAE’s Mohammed bin Zayed, could not be bothered to send a token envoy.
This fiasco revealed a simple truth: Ethiopia under Abiy stands alone. The dam that was supposed to symbolize national pride instead became a monument to diplomatic failure.
