It is an excellent question, however the problem for you is that this is something that Eritreans will reverse within a couple of years after Isaias' departure, who talks more about the unity of the Ethiopian state in his interviews than progress in Eritrea. So enjoy it while it lasts.

The best thing that has happened to Eritrea is that his love affair with Abiy didn't last long, it would have been a formidable long-term challenge for Eritrea. The next best thing that has happened to Eritrea is Meles' rejection of Isaias' suggestion of a common market between the two countries, with both Naqfa and Birr circulating freely, that would also have been another long-term challenge for Eritrea. The other things, Eritreans will solve within a couple of years after his exit.

Isaias Afwerki has openly claimed that he or the organization Shabia assigned Ethiopia a "100-year homework," and has credited the West and certain Arab states for supporting the creation of both OLF and Shabia. Figures like Berhanu Nega, Dawud Ibssa, and Lencho have, in recent times, been backed and sponsored in ways that undermine Ethiopia's progress and unity. Isaias and Shabia have consistently shown themselves to be fundamentally opposed to Ethiopia’s national unity. If unity had ever truly been their vision, Eritrea would still be part of Ethiopia today and the current suffering of the Eritrean people could have been avoided. I don't care about Ethiopia, whether it is federal, unitary, rich, poor, weak, strong. Ethiopia being an African country, I'd like to see it prosper and shed the centuries of disenfranchised meriet larashu zero-sum game mentality, other than that I don't give a hoot.

An injustice anywhere is an injustice everywhere. The atrocities committed in the Eritrea province by the ragtag Shabia forces are not only an injustice against that province, but against all 14 provinces of Ethiopia; and, indeed, against all of humanity.

To walk the ghosted streets of Asmara, lined with weary, dilapidated buildings infested with mold, rusted pipes, and dry taps, is enough to break the heart of any reasonable person. Today, in Eritrea, the household tax is paid not in money, but in lives, by sending children, raised in abject poverty, to die in Sawa military camps or to be lost in the Red Sea, prey to its sharks.

These are the fruits of modern-day slavery, bought with blood, while biting the hand of Ethiopia—the very nation that once fed, welcomed, and helped many prosper across all its provinces.
