According to the UNHCR, more than 839,000 Ethiopians have migrated to other countries in the past five years in search of job and economic opportunities.

Ever since Ethiopia joined BRICS, the mainstream Western media outlets that once shielded the country from negative news reports, have started reporting about the mass migration of Ethiopians and their tragedies.
But this doesn't mean that, the mass migration of the estimated 10 million Ethiopians during the last 30 years that went unreported, did not occur. It did, but political expediency often trumps Ethiopian tragedies.
